Thats a lot quicker than I can load a round, probably more accurate as well
that is a great wee demo...and shows how fast it can be...just remember this USED to make better ammunition than anything off the shelf..and that powder scoop was it..no faffing around with 1/10th of a grain
I would argue that ammunition made that way is still on par with some factory fodder out there....by weighing your charge you can improve speed somewhat as the scooped charge will be middle of the road charge weight wise.....
7mm Rem Mag me old mate....dont panic, when saw it I waas thinking @dannyb would still be weighing his first powder charge out LOL.
@Micky Duck I'd say on a par with most factory ammo out there. Throw in a set of scales to dial in a load and you're still making cheap reliable ammo that I'd say would match most factory ammo at least. I had to grab a box of Hornady Precision Creedmoor ammo for a mate (he really rated it) during the lockdown shortages. $86 a box!!! And now it's $110! That's a lot of money for "precision" ammo!
Still drag mine out from time to time, got a few sets
I'm looking forward to picking up my set at the end of the month and then load up them hammers
I use a plastic dead blow hammer with mine
Its a plastic hammer filled with lead shot so it doesnt bounce and plastic so brass and loader dont get damaged. Mines a snap on one but can probably get other brands
This has got me interested. Once a satisfactory load is developed. Is this suitable to reproduce it accurately.
very much so...your brass stays same size as your neck sizing only... you can weigh each charge of powder and seating depth is adjustable....
Yep I've loaded the same load, some in the press and some with lee loader and both shot the same. Use scales to measure the powder not the scoop. It will be more consistent
Been doing online shopping. No luck. Where can I get this Lee loader Classic?
Most of my Lee stuff I got here https://www.titanreloading.com
Of course that was before shipping ex USA went bananas.
Reloaders supplies in Auckland have them.
Thanks done!
Wtf have I done. Always believed I would never go down the reloading rabbit hole. This arrived last week from Amazon, nothing available online in NZ. Another distraction
How I got started and produces some top quality ammo. Its a bit fussy with case wall thickness and bullet type though.
i havnt used a lee loader for over 24 years, so because it neck sizes only- do you have to fun mild loads to make sure the neck sizing will work more times, before having to full length size?
My first 22 hornet reload today. Hit the log at two paces no problem.
Now for some more and run it over the chrony.
I used a full scoop of 2207, don't ask me how many grains that is, it's a home made one from a cartridge case, come with the set.
your results wont be flash without weighing charge in such a small weight sensitive case...it should be well safe IF 2207 is one of powders the scoop is made for...a low to middle of road load.
very easy to weigh your powder charge from spoon and add/remove the tiny bit needed to have it dead right.
when i pulled the 17 hornet cases apart to bring over found the powder that hornady used to be very fine. the 2207 is much coarser so erratically it should pack less volume. got to fire some ppu to bring over the cases(shortage here) then into the whacamole reloading. i know in the old days they filled the case and then ran the leveler over the mouth and seated the projectile, worked then and must work now.
You can get away without, but suggest you lube the neck when you size. Almost any lube will do. I use coco nut oil these days.
DONT DO THAT you silly old prick!!!!!!!!!!! you might get away with it if you have a really bulky powder(it would work with 7.62x39mm using 2206h) where yo ucannot fit enough into case to cause issues... but the scoop is DESIGNED TO BE USED as you discribe WITH CERTAIN POWDERS, listed on chart that should be in box...failing that let me know what scoop and powders you have and I shall look it up on the list that comes with the spoon/dipper set.
youve only got one half decent eyeball left, dont risk blowing it out or you wont be able to look at pretty gals at all anymore.
and before anyone gets all "upset onbehalf" Smokey n I are buddies so I feel ok to type that as I have,he knows what I mean.
How to use a powder scoop. This bloke has it worked out.
https://youtu.be/pp1YG-KLN8c?si=Yzaw4dS6wgsr3BT7
its a bottom bit of a case with soldered holder, really neat. you can ring your mate up and get the gem off him.
Here is the Lee dipper data.
thats not quite so bad...the way you typed it above I thought you were filling up the hornet case itself!!!!!
if you have scales, weigh a couple or 5 loads and average it out..tell us what powder it is and SHOULD be able to reverse engineer (hows that for foggy brain terminology?)the scoop size easy enough..... so scoop 5 lots into scale pan and see what it comes out with then devide by 5...
Way way back in the late 60s one of my first powder measure was an appropiately shortened 308 case with handle soldered on to it. Likewise I made a couple similar for black powder although one was made out of small diameter plastic tubing.
There was no internet back then but I certainly copied someone else's idea.
