my poor 260 (winchester primers do it again)

well was at the range today shooting my new 260 for the 1st time i had to sets of ammo a mates load he have me 20 of which were 44gn win790 behind a 120 coreloct in a Remington case with a fed mag primer.... and i chucked another 20 together last night just so i could have a good go with it they were 36gn (mid way between min and max) of ar2208 behind a 129gn sst rem case and a Winchester standard LR primer

i shot around 15 of the coreloct load it was great accurate enough for a hunting load... so i thought id try the sst 1st 2 were fine in my opinion maybe a little flat but nothing bad (see photo) and the 3rd shot this happened

the shot didn't feel odd no recoil increase or anything no weird noise in-fact it felt completely normal till i looked at the case bolt wasn't hard to open or anything ether
so i really don't think its pressure related and can only put it down to a dodgy primer i have seen that lots have had the same issues with win primers

am i right to think primer? or can someone see anything nasty

Primers. Had them do it to me once too. I'll never use em ever again

I think I read it was due to corrosion on the inside of the primer cup, leaving it thin which causes a weak spot that ruptures and gas cuts the bolt head.

it actually could happen it has happened that much

I think it can only be the primer.

Man, after all the crap that has occurred with Winchester primers, thought everybody knew to stay away from them by now!

ive still got 600 from before the issues came to light so ive just been using them will get rid of them now i think not worth it

You'd think so

so what do i do to the bolt now that photo was taken after a scrub with a tooth brush and oil and that's the best I've got it

Take it to a good smith to sort out. They may weld it and machine it back to sort it out.

Were you on the 100 yard range at Riverhead today ?
I'd try a mildly abrasive metal polish.
i used to only use Win primers, have switched after reading the horror stories.

Edit. Is the bolt actually cracked ?
Or just surface scarring ?

Last shop that tried to flog me off winchester primers I bluntly told them to stick them up their arse and walked out. Been using CCI LR primers after federal got hard to get and have not bothered going back to federal even though my local shop has got them back in stock I just keep going for the CCI primers.

I've got some Winchester primers in some cases I got with a barrel. Do you think it will be ok to fire them, to get rid of them, without powder or projectiles?

I.e will there be any risk of gas etching?
