    N565 & R26 in 6.5PRC - anyone using it?

Ive bought a M18 at a good price along with dies and stuff - its fired 6 shots. Have justified it with the old "it will be good for the grandsons"

Ive got 140 Amax, 140 Berger Hunter and 140 SST.
I think I can get my hands on some 140 and 147 ELDM.

Barrel is 24" but Im pretty sure I will cut it to 20" once I get it going.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Ive got n565 & R26. Also wondering how Hybrid100V would go - I have a surplus of that.

    G'day mate
57.5 of rl26 and the 147s was accurate and giving me 2950 fps(from memory) out of a 20 inch
Haven't used Hybrid100v but I reckon it would be good..
I found that the 6.5prc would eat pretty much any powder/pill combo and shoot good.
Found the 120ttsx to be a good point and shoot pill as well. Probably shot several big body stags with it. They didn't like it much

Flick me a PM with a number and I'll happily share a Quickload printout comparing suitable powders with a 147gr EldM. Without going in to details, at 60k psi, RL26 provides the most velocity, followed by N565. Hybrid 100V is the slowest.

    I have a 6.5-300rcm I built about 10yrs ago...... which is essentially a prc.....

Hybrid100v is its nectar... easily has 50 to 80 fps on all the other powders I have tried and excellent grouping accross the range of charges....

The powder works so well with it I don't even consider otherwise....

My barrel is 20" getting 3080 with 130s with a very mild minimum charge... can get it alot higher before pressure..
And 140s also over 3000 reasonably mildly...

Further on this, today I tried my first hand loads in the Mauser M18 - docked to 20". It had previously had 6 shots through it from new.

All loads today shot (3 shot groups) at or around .5 MOA.

Started wit soft H1000 loads. 57 grains. Factory OAL.
    142 LR Accubonds 2800 fps (under .5")
139 Hornady 2900 fps (about .5"). This represents less than 20 fps loss per inch of barrel from the Hornady manual, which is pretty damn efficient.

Ladder with N565 (slightly longer at max mag length), 140 Berger Hunter. Didn't chrono.
57gr & 58 gr shots were touching and pressure OK.
2x 59 grns .5" to right of above, touching, and very slight pressure signs.

Looks like 58/58.5 n565 might be the go. Expect circa 2950 fps.

I have some R26 but will use the 2 pots of N565 first. Am out of H1000.

Sounds as if it is a god shooter, might make your other rifles redundant. Be nice to see it in action on game soon.

Yeah. I only need a .223 and one bigger one. But instead I have 3 223's and 6 big ones. Crazy to have a 6.5prc, a 6.5x55 and a 270wsm because they are so similar. Common sense says sell some you silly old fool. But Ive got by through ignoring common sense thus far so I probably won't break that habit.

I hope to take the PRC out later this week.

You can't have to many rifles, it's what we are all about.

All sighted in. 58.5 N565, 2890 fps for the 140 Berger. 20" barrel.

    3 shots @ 100 just under .5"

Yeah. As above (2890 fps). And right on the pressure limit.
I would expect more speed from R26, and I have 3 pots of it, but I will use the 2 I have of N565 first.
