At least the 6.8 mm Western has a twist suitable for high BC projectiles. For far too long US cartridges have been kneecapped with slow twists. A case could be made for 8 inches being the standard twist for all calibres up to and including .30 calibre.

I agree 1:8 twist is a sweet spot for twist rate. Todd Hodnett from Accuracy First stated he uses this in his rifle builds up to and including 308w.
