The short neck on the 6.5 375r would add to the long jeopardy of the throat. . ..

Been sort and man hunting rifle would stick with short magnum cals, wsm or saum, 6.5 or 7 or 30cal. Depends how much brass prep you like?

What about one of your 7mm varieties @tui_man2
Would they fit in a tikka?

True, i get what your saying. But I'd look at as instead buy something that is cheaper to shoot and easier on barrels and use the extra money to get an extra 400-800 shots with the money.
I'd consider anything that went bad after 2500 rounds to be a barrel burner, and anything under 1500 to be insane.

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

I have used about 45 in trial work and went to get some more today. But there are none in shops apparently and there are only three boxes coming into the country in the next shipment. I'm not interested in having a load that I struggle to get projectiles for.

I have a hundred or so 150gr bergers left so will finish them and change.

No the barrel is not shot out, probably had about 600rounds through it at a guess
sounds like 162gr Amax's right there...

    So what about a 7-375?
What would I need to do to fit that in a tikka? I'm keen to shoot 180 grains put there abouts, rather than the 162 range

just use your current barrel until it's worn out, anything else will be an academic improvement

Puku, I have a 270WSM also. about 800-900 rounds through it now(mainly 140SST and 150VLDs).There is a stock pile of ABLR in my shed, but these are not for sale.

Once my barrel is done, I'm not sure what to go to. The 270WSM is so versatile, unless you go for a 1000-1200m caliber I'm not sure what to go to. Short actions are nice, and think a 260AI or even a 280AI at a stretch. a 140gr 6.5WSM would give you something similar to the 150gr in the 270WSM.

If you could have two rifles, a 6.5 or 270WSM and ture long range thing.

Go the whole hog and go .375 Ruger, has similar trajectory to a 30-06 with 270gr pills, just fit a limbsaver and you'll be sweet

Go forth and make big holes in things!
