    New press

    Gents,

I need a new press. Id prefer single stage as I have an old rotating turret press that has developed a fair bit of flex/play.

    Reloading 280AI, 7mm08 and 223.

What’s wrong with the RCBS Partner Press given its half the cost of the next model up?

    Cheers,

    Hayden

    Hi Hayden,
    whats the next model up?

Also, what kind of volume are you going to be doing , ie how many rounds a year approx?.

    Probably 500ish rounds a year.

Next up would be the RCBS rockchucker or the Redding Boss. Are these worth the extra few $?

Here's my 2cents: I suspect that if you buy the Partner, you'll like it, especially if you don't have much space for reloading wherever you do it.
It also seems to be portable, so might be handy at the range if you wanted to do the shoot/think/load process on the spot and develop keeper loads.

However, given that you have a 280AI to feed, I think that in the long run you might be happier with the solid, precise characteristics of the Big Boss or the Rockchucker. From what I read, the round has a very long reach, so the more precise you can be with your loading process, likely the better end result.
    Buy once, cry once.

I have a Redding T7 that I have have used to load a few thousand rounds of 223, 308 and 7mm08, and I have to say that I love the solid feel of my giant green mushroom.( If you see a pic of it, you'll know what I mean) It's a killer to lift though.

The Redding T7 is the top of my wish list, I have a RCBS Rockchucker and a Lyman Crusher 11 both are excellent presses and will last a life time
buy the best you can afford it will never wear out in your grandkids life time, use it for 50 years and you will get more than you paid for it,
My Rockchucker cost $60.00 in 1970 and the Lyman $120.00 in 1995.

    Thanks Max/shooternz.

Seems the sensible thing to do is buy the better press.
