Most rem mags I've seen can barely get those speeds with the 162. I don't know what you mean by heaps more omphh I use 79 grains of 2225 to get 2920 with the 215 berger is that 4 or 5 more grains than the rem mag?.
It carries 1000lbs of energy out to 1400 odd yards too which is handy.
Not a climber pissing contest I've had both , both kill shit and both require you to turn the nob on top of your scope.

You must have just struck some slow 7mms, with a 180 Berger,70gns ADI2217 gets me 2900fps, 73gns gets me 3050 - the 160/162 100fps faster, similar results in other peoples 7mm Mags I have worked up loads for.

Had a 300Wby I used to push 200gn Speers at over 3000fps comfortably, but silly amounts of powder to do it, compressed load of H1000, might be your 300 Mag doesn't like 2225 for speed, you using Federal 215's?

Omph : grunt/power, in this case powder load.
