other end of scale, 130gr ppsn in .308/ 06

Well i lucked out on some projectiles for half a buck a bang in form of the woodleigh 130 ppsn in .308......... some quick internetting shows 3000 fps range....

Any of you guys had much supply of these over there to test out? or used the 130gr in 3006 before?

im pretty sure 2206h is the go? but 2208 will do.. browning A bolt 22 incher.

this puts the 06 right up in 270 win country! an ideal fallow catridge in its own right

love to hear what yas have tried out in lighter 06 08 stuff

    cheers

I get 2935fps for the Speer 130hp using AR2208 in my 308, at the ADI starting load of 47gr.

I use to use 60gr 2209 with a 125gr Sierra or 130gr Speer HP. Never had a chronic back then, but they were devistating on goats.

130 speer hp...nicknamed handgrenades for good reason
125grn ballistic tips also very naasty when hit something
both great lower recoil loads and both can be downloaded for youth...both work well at full noise for semi explosive terminal effect and both will work better slowed down a tad,to give more reliable penertration
for fallow at full noise...head/neck or in the crease would be my pick...shoulder shot would be VERY messy .for anything bigger or even decent sized fallow buck...that shot placement would be only ones I would use unless in open country and sure of quick follow up...but messy sums them up.
and also seeing where you live....IF you can get them (rocking horse poohs) the 125grn TAIPAN projectiles will decapitate goats at 30/06 speeds....loaded hundy up for mates 06 and he has had a ball using them...load wasnt full noise, somewhere about 60% between start and maximum....win 760 if memory serves me right.

We're talkin woodleighs, not "Handgrenades" lads

i have abosultely no doubt that the woodleigh will not grenade even on Sambar stags... even at 3100.
some other ussies have put them into Rusa an they were caught on the far side , double the diam. from that i can ee it bring fine for Sambar hinds perfect almost, an maybe a tad special on big stags an need a placed shot not blaze away... no dramas there!

mail isnt far away, ill do some visal tests on this bullet on youtube id say

nice too see what powders were used for some of the ligher stuff!

and you see what you did there?????
THIS is the very reason folks get all confused about projectiles...in first post you said fallow deer...little lightly constructed critters....often when being hunted for meat the head neck shot with highly fragile projectile is chosen....now your talking Rusa...other end or deer spectrum and notoriously hard critters to put down.....
you MAY FIND the woodleys,if they are as hard as you suggest will pencil through fallow.......swings n roundabouts.

i used someones experienced information passed onto me to explain what a woodleighs doing in a rusa, .... will often find a 150 ppsn or coreloct etc inside a fallow frm a good shoulder shot, anyway, not enough difference in my mind for rusa v fallow here in aus, your mileage will vary with ya Rubars up north there, they will have that gene that the sambar carries.... very strong will to live, i would assume.

    anywho.... cheers fella

These tings sing, Sweet on the recoil factor and get there quick enough , going to test a higher charge of 2208 then switch over to 2206h for a tester, see which is more accurate at the higher end.

Question to yas, how much over Max would ya go, ? i see for a 125gr projectile AR2208 starts at 54gr..... up to 57.3.......... thats heaps for the 5 grains less charge, yet the MAX 130gr is below 125gr min....... So im tempting to continue up with 2208 and see when primers flatten right up / or many other indicator that things are too hot, alot of Canadians rekon the adi data seemed mild for 130gr..
    whats yas rekon

pushing higher...MIGHT .... give you some advantage...but your brass will last less....your wow the recoil is light....wont be as much...and the 130s wont hold up out long as well as something heavy anyway...I would settle for something accurate over faster EVERYDAY of week.

it MIGHT MD.... but wont always

if chasing just accuracy over pace i will stick to the 150ppsn i think, more usefull as an all round projectile for all round ranges, for now this 130ppsn should fit the 300m general hunting situations with bonus of havin a flat trajectory due to that speed increase.

just about to test some 2206H loads an see how it stacks up

going to stick with 2208, shot one load of 2206 but too low to tighten up the groups an cbf wasten powder on it... got some reasonable promise with 52 and 52.5 gr , that'l be a happy medium for velocity an accuracy.

which i a bit interesting with the woodleigh /adi data is there isnt much FPS advantage from min to max although there 5 gr charge difference.. 2980 V 3140 ? thoughts.

i rekon these 130s would be alot better suited for the 308! i like me 308 typically with 150grains, an can see this 130gr ppsn oin good things for kiwi hunters with 308s, thinkin cham tahr red combo

I’m running TTSX 130s in my 308. Was the most accurate load through my tikka. 47gr of 2208 pushing them around the 2950fps mark.
