Over 5000 fps. That is a fast projectile.

I'm definitely not a promoter of the quest for more speed, but this is FAST.

Yeah, I think I remember seeing a picture of his Chrony screen.

    22-243 wasn't it?

-I seem to remember him saying that the rifling followed the projectile down the paddock. ..I presume he was talking figuratively, rather than literally. But at that speed you never know.

Barrel wear is more from powder/carbon abrasion and heat isnt it? so in said 5000+fps rifle would it make any difference to barrel life running the 30gr to the 40gr at around the same pressure(lets not start that again) after all its only copper

-It's a lot of powder going through a small bore- so there'll be plenty of that.

-Yeah, let's not start that again pressure aside, it's still metal being forced over metal at nearly double the 'normal' speed, so I'd say friction will be a pretty decent factor in wear/things heating up.

No doubt that I will get pulled up by the speed & pressure police but here goes.

I had another play around a while ago with the 30 MEF in one of my 22-243s with a 26" barrel.

They would cruise at around 5200 reasonably accurately but really only good for the "cool factor" of 5000+

I might have another play with different powders at some stage.

I haven't shot much with them except paper, crzyman shot bunnies with them & IIRC he reported they were "underwhelming"

So would barrel life be any better really running say 55gr? still poking the same powder and heat down the barrel(ok a bit less powder unless you go slower then it might be more powder)

I have an idea for beating the record, but It would cost a fortune, so Im not doing it. Kiwi Greg? Want to put Terminator on the map?
    Lol.
I might have to dig it out & have another play to see what cruising speeds I can get with different powders.
I saw the molyed pills again today but I was busy with other toys at the range

My one was 5276fps, that was blowing primers clean out of the case.

The rifling had chatter marks in it for the last 10 inches or so. Not something I'd do if I wanted to keep the rifle.
If its guns, tits or tyres it's going to cost you lots of money

Mine might have been, but I would get into trouble again with the Reloading Police, so it is just a Rumour.....
