    Partitions on sika

Hey guys how do partitions go on sika? Spoke to a guy who told me they are soft bodied animals and alot of harder pills just blow through them. Mainly thinking 125s in 6.5 as over 140s to help with speed but also wondering if anyone has run them in 308/300wsm (150-165s).
    Cheers john

Ive shot eggzachary 2 sika...first copped a 130grn NBT fair up the jacksee as it ran up road infront of me .2nd copped a norma 130grn through boiler room....both from poohseventy at 50ish yatds.... they arent a huge animal so your 125 partition will do the job nicely.....as will just about any other 6.5 pill ,its only the ones designed to be driven at crazy silly magnum speeds that might give trouble.

I've shot a few Sika, (5 or 6) mostly hinds and spikers, with my .260 and 125gr partions, they do the job fine, all have blown threw,
Really that's the beauty of the Partion, is its soft and mushrooms well, while the shank is tough and holds together, (most of the time) for deep penetration.
a 100gr, might be even better option for sika, fallow and goats.

Whats wrong with the 120gr Prohunter Sierra, will do fine for sika. Should go well out of that 260 of yours.

My gun doesn't like 120s so was thinking I may get a sample pack of 125s just for a try. I have eldms and sgk that shoot really well so doubt I will go away from them but if the partitions shoot mean would look at changing to them when I run out of current stock.

A bit hard for Sika IMO and they don't have the best reputation for accuracy compared to traditional cup n core pills.

    Just my 2c

They are pretty small animals and in a 6.5 I’d use a ballistic tip or game king - 120 to 140 grains. All would be plenty adequate and a bit cheaper.

In a 300 wsm a eld m, x or ballistic is all you need. Most sika are the size of a dog!!!!

Yeah got my mate to load eldms at medium pace as he chases sika so I reckon they will be epic. Cool I won't bother changing then as between my eldms and my gamekings I am sorted

Most bullets will go through a Sika except maybe a big stag. The partitions will open up ok but will still exit, which IMHO is good. I used the 140gr when I had a 6.5 and they opened up well on Sika. But I found 120BT worked just as well and where a cheaper more accurate option. For an even cheaper option try 129gr Hornady interlocks these work just as good as the noslers.
This was all shot with a 6.5x55 in the mid 1990's so the bullets may have changed a bit since then
BC doesn't matter, until you need to dial

Sika aren't an overly large animal. I've used Interlokts, Amaxs, V-max, Game Kings, Accubonds (never again), Ballistic Tips, Core-Lokt, Hornady SP's, Targex all in various calibres on Sika but I've always come back to a good old cup and core projectile.

I have thought about trying partitions but Hornady & Sierra have a great selection of projectiles that do the job perfectly and cheaper.

@superdiver I couldnt get the 125 NP to group very well at all, and gave up on them in my 260 A friend is now using them in his 6.5 x 55 on Sika and Reds and is very happy with their performance.

As in the other thread the Amax is a good performer. I have only killed hinds with them however and a big bold stag might need a stouter projectile.

Johnd is referring to me and yes I am very happy with the 125gr partitions in my 6.5x55. The couple of sika I have shot with the dropped on the spot with big exit holes, at Bush hunting ranges. I also took a large red hind at 300m with it and while the projectile didn't exit it made quite a mess of the onside shoulder an internals.

Out of a 20inch barrel using 46gr 2209. It groups a comfortable 1 inch, I am not a great bench shooter.
