This information included copies of customs signed permit and shipping invoice. Looks like they are making extra work for themselves and doubling up on customs signing items off.

Not a big deal just scan and email the required documents.

Worst part of importing at the moment is the backlog at customs (currently about 4 weeks) and wether NZ Post will deliver once released from customs (they told me no, I have to pick up or sort out some other freight provider).

Hmmm, I have a problem I don't have any customs signed permit etc as the parts I ordered came through customs without being stopped (they were correctly described on the package) and arrived at my place before the import permit was even issued...

If anyone needs a DIP Tikka T1x rail or DIP bolt handle for a Sako Quad (which fits a T1x) I could import them now to use my permit...

I can confirm you need a import permit to import a PTG 30 MOA Picatinny rail for a Remington 700 - I just went through this process in case I couldn't get one locally.

Took a week to get from Auckland Central - dropped off copy of license sent through to AO. Then another week to get confirmation from the service centre in Palmy north via email and physical permit arrived 2 days later in mail in full NZ police envelope regalia and supporting documentation.

This seems to be the new norm now guys.. Guess we'd better embrace the process eh..

Thats ok. Email and say it came through without being stopped. Thats what I did with an order. We are honest law abiding licenced firearms owners after all. :)

Got the email this morning saying the import permit for my tripod had been approved & was in the mail.

I got a response today saying a ww2 sling for my k98 needed a permit but the cleaning rod doesn't as it doesn't fit to the rifle....... Little do they know :( it's all madness a 80 year old piece of leather is lethal in the wrong hands

It's bizzar I'll give them that, the tripod thing really?

I had a red dot come in a few weeks back no worries didn't even think to look up about it.

Personally I would prefer to support local, it's just ushally the bits I want are not able to be sourced locally and the shops don't seam to want to get in little weird bits for me. Hopefully we may get better dealer support here and them carrying more stock if they have to do import orders every time they want somthing. Probably not though.

I might order 10, 000 stock screws. And fill out a form for each of them...

the import permit form doesn't really have options for fields to fill out for a scope. Quite stupid.

FYI
I have just been advised that my 5 approved permits ( 3 lines of items in each ) have been posted to me today.

It took 25 days from application to posting them out.
So you need to allow at least a month for these to get through the system.

As a side note they declined one of the permit applications because " chamber reamers are not a firearm part " and therefore do not require a permit.
This after being advised that "specialised items involved in the manufacture of firearms required a permit to import"

Mine haven't taken over 14 days so far (and that included processing thru my local cop shop) so obviously some inconsistancy with the system.

Had kick back on a scope - plain garden type. I hadn't filled in the reason why I wished to import a prohibited part section???

And the one of mine that didn't get processed was "refused" not "declined". Cop speak I suppose for declined.

Carazy.

Well i will know for next time.

Hope they get a new fit for task form soon

I could understand an import permit being required for an integral part of a firearm, but a leather sling (and Greg’s tripod)? WTF is going on?

Its all carefully designed to make it so hard to get all your duck in a row.........................you simply get tired of trying and just give the hobby away.

Just like if you have to hand in something not on the list, PLOD makes you pay $120+gst, asks for a whole lot of proof and then may request you have it valued by one of his approved valuers at your cost.

What a major clusterfuck, it seems no one knows and everyone is just guessing.

As a result I have just emailed them to ask if a permit is required just to import a trigger lock. Lets see!!
