Piece of shit fucking Redding Big Boss press!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So my 15 year old Lee press broke last year. I figured an expensive Redding Big Boss press would be an improvement. It has always been quite stiff to raise and lower the ram. I figured it was new and the tolerances were quite tight.
Tonight it completely seized up. I ended up having to get the sledgehammer out to get the ram out. Turns out there is a big gouge in the ram and inside the sleeve the ram goes through. It starts just below where the primers fall out. Looks like some old primer material has got down between the ram and sleeve and has gouged out both.
Gave everything a good sand with some wet and dry to try ans smooth it out. Worked for a bit, but was still very stiff. Now it has seized again!!! Part way through loading up 100 9mm rounds.
    Fuckin piece of shit press!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had too long to send it back. I took the ram out again and took the wire wheel on the dremel to it, then the wet and dry again. Better than new now. Shouldn't have happened in the first place though.

Annoying when expensive gear packs a sad, but sounds as if you sorted it but it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

    I feel your pain @stug

Redding gear is usually spot on ............. But then so is my 40 year old Lee press

Sounds like you have it sorted now.

    Cheers

Yep smoothed it out and got the 9mm finished. I'll feel better on Sunday when I'm blasting a few targets!

Piss off though, fork out for a serious bit of kit and it performs like that. You just wait for it to play up again.

I also broke my Lee challenger press. Got a classic cast now, but also fixed the old one - Titan reloading sell all the bits, only a few bucks to get the oldy going again. Now use it for depriming before cleaning the cases.

Oiled but not greased. Have oiled it since. I don't think greasing would have stopped the gouging caused by something being caught in there.
