Thread: powder for magnums?

righto ill try answer a few questions, when i was testing some starting loads with 2225 every single shot is leaving the barrel looking like a chimney, hence im cleaning it after every shot so its nice and clean again because i dont hunt with a barrel full of soot. im shooting 154gr ssts from my 26inch barrel. it was also doing this when i was loading for my 270wsm.

Can you say what your load is related to the ADI book? Don't need to tell how much you charging but just if it is above maximum or bellow. My question is because my rifle(a Tikka T3 lite) has the accuracy load within 0.5 grains from the maximum recommended in the book, anything above that the grouping goes "wide" and pressure signs appear, such as bolt marks and stick bolt.
My 2 rifles shoot great and don't leave any "crap" in the barrel, just the usual residue.
You may be getting nice velocities with the 2225 out your 26" barrel.

P.S.: I am using 2217 mostly in my 162gn Amax's loads, 2225 only with the 168gn.

How much powder are you using. What primer are you using. What is the C.O.L. Are you crimping at the Cannelure.
