I have decided that I really need a powder thrower now.
I've been measuring each load out, and it's taking forever!
What make/brand type should I be looking at?

I have the same problem but don't want a thrower, i want auto dispenser.
However they are expensive so i keep weighing by hand.
A green one.
Am using Lee thrower and its ok but I still weigh every load. Am going to get a trickler to hopefully speed things up a little.
I use a rcbs thrower and weigh every 8th load (number of holes on tray ) it's seems consistent ,had armed lee it was supprisingly accurate an d prob easier to set up to me anyway only using one load on two rifles( and when I miss it's me not the load or rifle)this works for me an d I seam to have a good hunting load
I have a lee thrower that is almost perfectly accurate. Still weigh every 5th tho.
My Lee one is pretty good also, but I drop the load just short then trickle up to weight on the scales. But 9 times out of ten it is on the mark, sometimes shoots over. Which is a real PIA
they're not -that- expensive .. I got a Lyman Gen 6 Landed ( from Sinclair ) for approx $300 (from memory) and it's the business. There are a few little foibles to it but it produces a good consistent load.
There are more expensive ones out there like the RCBS with more features like memory, etc, but for me the lyman does the job.
Yes the flake type powders well not flow through a thrower. Well hasn't for me at least.
As long as you put heaps of powder through to get rid of sticking with static. And be consistent with the operation
I even have marks on the tube and keep the powder between these marks, that's the pocket that is most consistent for me

I use the Lee 2.8cc scoop and then trickle.
When I buy one I suspect it will be the Lee as its $49 and I hear few bad words on it, in fact a lot of happy sounds. Other makes are a lot more I cant justify spending that myself. In fcat I'll probably buy 2, one for 308w and one for 303british and label them.
regards
I have the RCBS and throw slightly light and trickle each load up. Very quick and the thrower is pretty accurate.
I have a spare Lee thrower here too if you want to try it out.
Get a blue one, Mine works great UNLESS you are using powder with long grains, Short grains and ball powders work great, mind you so does the progressive press!
Key to success with the lee thrower (and I imagine any other) is consistency in use and firm movement. If I do that then it drops pretty close each time. Still weigh stuff though. If you use ball powder pretty much anything will measure it accurately.
My Lee one is good enough for me.
Also depends if you are going for bench rest accuracy, a hunting or service rifle load.
Most ADI powders in mine will be 90% spot on or 0.1gn plus or minus.
Accuracy loads I'll weigh every one.
When loading a gazillion .223 roads, I'll check every 1 in 5.
As others mention, cycle at least a full container of powder through it to get rid of static charge.
Use a steady even throw action for all.
Cheers for the input guys.
Yeah I would love an auto dispensor as well, but they are waay out of my budget.
I don't mind getting a decent thrower rather than a el-cheapo that I'll need to measure every load.
I'm using BM2 powder for the 223 for everything from hunting to ipsc type targets. Once it's set I hope to be able to just leave it. But will obviously check loads every few throws.
Just hope to speed things up considerably from what I'm doing now loading 200 at a time.
I replaced my Lee one with a Hornady. The Lee is terrible in comparison, leaks ball powder out the side when operating, hangs up alot with stick powder. The Hornady hums through ball, hangs up a little with stick, but you can sort of muscle it. Some powders like 4064 and RE 22 just suck in a powder thrower full stop.
GM has kindly lent me his Lee thrower to have a play with
Just trying to find the VMD of the ADI BM2 powder. Why is it so hard to find??
Anyone know where to find this out?
I just adjusted the micrometer until I got the rightish amount coming through.
Surprised how it fluctuates between throws though. I am going to have to weight each throw and trickle in last bit I think.
Makes the process a bit slower than I thought.
Still better than the teaspoon I was using. :wtfsmilie: :D
I normally guess at it and keep adjusting till its right. Then record what the sing I'd in the note book.
It's a pain when changing load a lot though...

My trickler almost went out the garage at high speed. A .223 case works 10x better.
I always set to throw a fraction low, and as said be consistent with your throw, then trickle the last few grains.
