A mate asked me to find some reloading data for 308 using 150 grainers and 2209, so off to my books and to my surprize not one had a load using 2209/H4350.
So on to the internet and just about everything I could find said 2209 was not recommended for the 308. Most stating it's too slow.
But most say 2209 produces goods speeds and fine accuracy in 243, 260, 7mm08 and 338 federal then why not the parent case?
Any thoughts???
Can't comment on the 338 but for the 243 to 7mm08. Lighter bullets in the same size case (308) usually require a slower burning powder. It's all about the bullet weight to case capacity ratio.
243, 260, 708 all have a smaller neck diameter compared to case diameter so need a slower powder to keep pressure down. 2208 is the go to for 308. Surprised 338 federal has 2209 as you would expect a faster powder because of the larger neck diameter, possibly because of the mass of the projectile. General rule, as the mass of the projectile goes up use a slower powder.
Case size to bore size ratio.
2209 should be a go with heavy for caliber projectiles in 308 but 150 is at the light end of 30cal bullets so 2208 and 2206h are better suited.

Will check my 2016 ADI Reloaders pamphlet - NB - the above comments make a lot of sense.
I'll be using 2208 for 150, 165 and 168gr bullets.
Might have to borrow some 2206H for the 125 and 135gr bullets.
Cheers guys, was thinking along those lines but then seeing it listed for the 338 Fed got me stumped.
End result is mate is getting some 2208:thumbsup:
I've tested 2209 in 7-08 with 162 Amax. Results were pretty underwhelming.
For 150gr in 308 using ADI powder I'd look at 2208 and especially 2206H
What barrel length and twist rate ?
