Got my hands on a T3 7mm08 today, to replace the 308 I'm going to sell. Plan is to get it going as is for now, then turn it into a compact .284Win, so:
1 - Who is getting what velocities and results with what powders and projectiles in 7mm08?
2 - Who has got the pro tips on 284Win built on a T3?
I have on hand at the mo Norma cases and 120 Bt's and 120 Sierra Gk's so will start there.
@GWH . As far as 284 results go his are bloody impressive
I ran 2209 and 2208 between 162eldms, 154ssts, 150sgks and 145hcsp. Rifle was an all rounder so figured with reasonable speed and the good bc of 7mm pills I could get away 0-500m with most. I found around 53.5gr-54gr of 2209 with a 150gr~ and a 19" barrel gave good accuracy and 2700fps+. If I had my time again for an all-rounder I would probably use a 160gr~ soft point
@Noswal tell him about your performance and hunting results with 162s from your 22" 708.
2208 or RL16 work great in 7mm08. I’ve settled on 150eldx in front of RL16 at 2750fps as do everything 0-500 yard combo
I'm currently farting around with a 708 downloaded with a red dot sight.
When it come time to get it cooking I'm undecided on whether to AI it and run 150s or 284 it and run 162s.
Shorter and supressed or factory length and bare is another thing I wax and wane over
RL17 and 162 ELD-M at 2630fps out of 20" barrel. Enough horsepower out to further than I would shoot.
If we are re inventing the 284 how about necking up a 6.5 PRC to 7mm would be similar /better? and would fit short actions and more rifles :D
Im loading my 7-08 with 162gr Eld-m, 46gr of 2209 (it is a little compressed) I'm shooting a Blaser so am able to seat quite long 2.924in achieving 2675fps
Have taken a Spiker at 590yds and Tahr x2 at 680yds (575tbr)
I've rung steel out to 1000yds with this load putting a 4in 2 shot group.
There may be more suitable powders like 2208 for example but why fix what isn't broke ;)

Currently using a SA Sako which is a limiting factor for me but there is a fine line between being over-bore and that of using a longer action which really depletes the main likeable features of some of the 260/ 284/ 7mm08 types.

My 284 is running a 19 inch barrel and 2775 with 162 eldm's over win760/h414 in norma brass.
Accounted for a fair few animals now and never had one go more than a couple of steps.
20" barrel
56.2gr Hodgdon superformance
160gr TMK
2830fps.
Crunch the numbers on that
My Blaser 7-08 (retired) 18"
RL-15 43.4g, 140 NBT 2905fps, Lapua brass, Fed 210M
Blaser 284Win 20"
VV N160 55.0g, 160TGK, 2765fps, Petersen brass, CCI BM2
Both shoot better than me.
Got the 7mm08 scoped and running today, had some 140gn PPU to get from bore sighted to on target, 1.5 moa from that stuff, had some 139SST Superformance, it went moa, cobbled together some 120gn Sierra PH , that went moa, and some 120gn NBT loaded to 2 different lengths, managed 3/4 from them, fair honking along from a full length barrel - might look at the 150 Berger and 160TMK next, have tons of 2209 and 2206H on hand, am optimistic.
Wasn't properly set up for solid shooting position so a fair amount of shooter error today but am confident that better setting up and a little more development the 120NBT will be a goer if kept as a 7mm08, but the heavies might change my mind.
Have never run 7mm08 before, it better kill as well (and a bit further) as my .243!
How much W760/414 are you running? That’s a decent speed for 19 inch.Quote:

T3 solves that simply by changing out the bolt stop and giving it a long mag, single stack feed from the T3 mag solves potential feed issues other actions/feed can create. In this case, the rifle was chosen specifically to suit the cartridge plan.Quote:
