Is Reloader 26 too slow for 284 win?

Keen to know if anyone is running this fairy dust in their .284's and is the velocity decent?

Current load is with RL17 and eld-m's but I like to tinker around with other load options (although not necessary).

    Cheers

Gidday - assuming 162's at factory COL from a 20" barrel Quickload says you should be able to run up to about 56 gns (MAX) of RL26 and get about 100 fps than RL17. Make sure you work up to this sort of load - Quickload is only a guide . . . . .

Long barrel's are an advantage with this dust, if you are after FPS. You can get it with less pressure in small cartridges like 260 etc.

Not trying to hyjack your thread @kiwi303.

Hi Tentman, what about 284 Winchester with 30" barrell and 180gr Lapua Scenars?? Would RE26 be OK for them?

Superformance powder goes well with 160 - 162 gn pills in 284

@ihmsakiwi - you should get about 2900 fps at 54gn. Again a Max load so approach with caution.

Thank you @Tentman. I only currently have H4831SC but not sure I can get enough in the case to push the 180 Scenars to 2850+ ??
Maybe I need to get some of that RE26.

Hmmm - H4831 and H4831 SC responds well to use of a dropper tube or vibration of the case, 54gn (MAX LOAD) is 108% fill which might be achievable depending on your seating depth, it should give 2900 fps

RL26 should be perfect for heavy bullets in 284 win, Ive just started playing with 180 eldm's in a 22" barreled 284, currently using IMR 7828ssc which is shooting very well (was back at the range this morning) but i have some RL26 coming to try in it (amongst other cartridges) as looking at QL it looks ideal.
    chainsaw and DLW like this.

Out of curiosity, do people find RL26 more consistent than RL17? Or better?

RL26 should be a lot more temp stable than RL17 @Gerardo

    An update for this thread.

Ive recently shot a ladder test with re26 in my 22 inch 284 with 162gr Amaxs.

My rifle has a long throat and im running a long coal with the bullet seated right out in the neck only.

Please start 2-3 gr lower than i did, working up looking out for excess pressure signs.

Heres my velocity results of the ladder.
