    reloading for ar15 carbine

I am in the process of purchasing a 14.5inch barreled ar15 with a 1in7 twist. Can someone please help with projectile suggestion for hunting and any load data would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

With such a short barrel choice you are planning on short range use only? ie under 200 yds?

1 in 7 twist tends to suggest a heavier ie longer bullets, but 55gr is always worth a try.

    I suggest avoiding barnaul bullets.

BM2 seems to work well as a powder and its relatively cheap and easy to come by, though 2208 does fine.

2206h and bm2 are the common powders used for a 223. For deer is important to avoid frangible projectile. I use and recommend Barnes 62g ttsx. Expensive but with it for deer.

Here is my recipe that is very accurate in dpms with 16'' barrel and Nea with 18'' barrel.( 24.5grains of AR2206H, 60grain hornady softpoint #2270, OAL set at 2.260'')
Works well on large billys, have some 60g hornady hollow point projectiles that shoot just as good but yet to see how they go on goats.

Anything suitable for hunting being used in 70-80gr? And still fit in the mag?

My 16" CMMG is spitting out 65gr Serrias with the help of some BM2.

The only thing holding it back on accuracy is the Shakey Old Blind Bugger yanking on the Trigger.

223 is great but it needs to be going as fast as possible to be effective, 2208 and 2206h are pretty limp out of a 14 inch gun.

Interestingly after putting a lot of different rounds over chronograph I found Privi blue box 55gr soft point to be a good value all round load. 2970 out of my 16 inch gun and will put 3 under 1moa.

Brass case and 70 cents a round ... I will only reload if I'm chasing a few more FPS.

For general hunting I can't go past the Privi.

Vitivouri make a number of pistol powders that work... Although it breaks the bank.

2207 has worked well in the past.
