Reloading new-bie - 7x57 OAL question

Hi,
new to reloading and persevering with attempting to measure OAL of bullet/case combination using the hornardy OAL gauge. Inserted a modified case and projectile, then pushed projectile to meet lands, tightened and removed. however with bullet selected, it will not be seated very far into the case (less than 5mm). with another bullet, it will not be seated at all.
this is for a 7x57 - maybe the throat is 2 miles long...

S&B case
Nosler ballistic tip projectile 150gr
and Speer hot-cor 145gr

or, am I stuffing this up in some way?

If its a military rifle it could have a long throatI know mil x55 does

Sounds like the chamber has a long throat for those projectiles.
Just seat them 6-7mm into the case neck.

Sometimes rifles just have a long throat and the bullet will have a long jump. You could go to a heavier and longer bullet or go all copper which are naturally longer if you want a shorter jump. I would worry about how it shots before deciding you need it needs to be seated close to the lands.
I am reloading for two different 7x57 and one likes heavy projectiles in the 175gr range and the other prefers 139 - 150gr.

I believe the 7x57 was designed for those long roundnose 175gr bullets. My Brno model 21 lands is way out there. I load 174gr PPUs to a total length of 80mm with comfortable amount of bullet on the neck. I have an accurate load, so have not explored any further.

Just over 3 inches, 3.06 inches to be exact is the coal for it. Don't worry about jamming the lands or bullet jump load some that length and go shoot. 160 to 170 gr are the most popular bullets but as light as 110 used to be available

Rifle is a Sabatti (probably early '70's?) - thought it being younger the throat wouldn't be too long. also have a Brno M21, I'm expecting the projectile
will need to pack its lunch for the long hike needed before it meets the lands.....

I wouldnt get too concerned with it, the 7x57 can be very forgiving and most rifles chambered in 7x57 have long throats. Seat the projectile so the base of the projectile stops about the base of the neck or 7mm and try it. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
