I just move my chair. If for example your right handed it's going to be only on the right of you anyway. I can imagine powder projectiles and stuff getting stuck in those rails.

If it's a room to do everything, yes, plenty of bench space. Quite a deep bench with shelves etc in the back, Even shelves under the bench top. Shit seems to accumulate.
I just have everything in reach from the chair. I use led "verandah" lights.
