2208 and a 140 gameking
2 grains less powder than what you would use in a Sako/tikka
A big fast bullet beats a little fast bullet every time
They seem pretty easy to load for and get acceptable results - I tend to cheat now and buy borrow or flog some factory loads and try them to see what groups well before I go down the track of buying 100-count bullet boxes etc. I know the mates one ended up with 140gr boat tailed something with an exposed lead tip (I can't recall flavour now) but memory gives me 42gr of Varget (2208 in the Hogdon bottle). This is close to ADI's listed max, but was OK in that combo. I can't recall cases, but I was using Federal large rifle then. Worked well, regular 1/2-3/4 inch groups at 100m which is perfectly fine for a north island bush bat. That was using box standard Lee reloading gear too, nothing fancy.
@buzzmann ive still got those 140 Nos BT's if you want them
150 ELDX or 120 NBTs on top of 2208/Varget. I’m currently playing with some 119gn Hammers in 18in bbl 708 with 2207. But it’s a Mk5 Weatherby.
43 grains 2208 139 Hornady soft point. Model 7, 2650 fps
Above should read 2208, not 2207 and are running the 119gn Hammers at 3000fps
Does anyone use 06h in a 7mm08? Cheers

Tried it when setting up the load I mentioned above, very slightly slower start load for start load compared to 2208 and showed pressure signs earlier than we expected in that combo (140gr pill). Ended up happier with the 2208 load so that's where we stayed and didn't try anything else. I think 2206H would be happier with the lighter pills and you might get slightly better performance there, but that's just my thought as I really haven't played with it enough to be able to state that for fact. Also, 7mm08 isn't one of my calibers so my loading for this is limited to two rifles and only setting up one load in each.
I have a half can of 2206H here and will have a play around with it in .308 shortly when I get some time off daddy duty, was struggling a little trying to get good performance out of 2208 in my rifle but I think I have an idea of why that is and if I'm right its not the powder thats the cause. Likely I'm going to run into the same issue I had with the 7mm, as I'm using 165gr pills in the .308 and it's likely to be over the sweet spot where 2206H is meant to play nice (light for caliber bullets in the medium case size).
