Renaissance wax for Imperial Sizing wax

    Good morning,

Does anyone know if i could use Renaissance Micro-Crystalline Wax Polish instead of Imperial Sizing Wax? I have a huge tub of it not getting used and running out of my current case lube. Was going to switch to imperial wax but if this works it would see me out a lifetime.

    Cheers

Ok, now you really do need to name that 'toothpaste like substance' so we all know what to avoid!!!

I have been using it for a couple of years. I’m quite sold in it for stocks, leather etc. I have bought it online.

well its the ONLY product made by LEE that I dislike..others on here rate it highly...I curse the stuff...MOST occasions someone ends up with case stuck in dies or ripped head off case, they have been using this product....all be it probably wrongly.

Good to know cheers John. I think Bill Nikl told me to buy it. I had a go with it this afternoon. Seemed to work well but certainly didn't do a couple hundred. Will get some sizing wax next time im in one of Auckland lacking stores.

Ahhhhhh. Yes, say no more - you are on to it with that comment, my experience is similar and I've had to rescue several cases out of dies from that exact cause. I've had a couple of interesting ones too, like a die that lost tension on the decapping rod that slipped down as one case was pulled out and on the next the case bottomed onto the decapping rod and at the same time it decided to freeze solid up top. That was fun, had to drill 3 holes around the base (.308 sized case head) and use a turned up spacer with the equivalent three holes to pull the case out with. Probably cost more than replacing the die to do the work, but fixed it. That was the same 'lube' product that was used on that job. I don't know why it creates such an issue!

I wouldnt think renaissance wax would work well, its designed to be polished off and then dry I imagine it would build up hard deposits inside the dies. Awesome for protecting metal work and stocks though.

Best sizing lube I have found is lanolin. I buy cosmetic grade from cosmetic supply stores as it doesn't stink like the less refined stuff used in industry. I run two brews, one pure lanolin for summer, one mixed with a little neatsfoot oil to reduce the viscocity in colder times. You can also use a small amount of white mineral oil for this.

This lube is basically what everybody uses for bullet swaging which is way harder on dies than case resizing and I have found it to be great for both.

Best part is you can get it all over your hands and its actually good for your skin, and I really like the smell of neatsfoot, so its a win-win
