Interesting thanks guys - something else to buy ! Or should I say keep an eye out for
For my particular rifle, the 168s were very fussy and difficult to get shooting with the 215s. Messed with seating depth a lot to tune them and even then I wasnt fully satisfied. When I tried the 210s it just didn’t matter how they were seated, they all just started shooting great. I havent looked at details on SD etc but I imagine they were better too. For me it was just a night and day difference with accuracy.
I'm 64.2gr rl26, with 168s @ 3053fps
My 18.5" is great with the rl17, no pressure around the 3000fps mark! Mind you it is the 300, but my old 18 saum used rl17, threw 150s @ over 3000fps.
Yip apples for oranges 30 cals are fast vs weight compared to the same weight of a slimmer pill but they get clapped with bc pound for pound by weight as you know reloader 26 with a 150gn would likely yeild me 3150-3200fps ish no un burnt powder here to worry about my measly 62gns for 2900 works darn well and efficiently when compared to every other cartridge driving the same pill with 4-6 gns more for the same velocity
BTW what was the latest proce for 1lb rl26?
If I knew rl26 was going to be this acare, I would have developed with somthing else. But luckily, I now have about 16lb of it. I just have no fed 215 primers anymore
Yea the whole slower burn powder not going well in a short barrel idea is a bit of a myth. Had a guy at a gun store swear black and blue I was wasting my time buying Rel 26 for my short 260 saying all the powder wouldn’t be burning etc etc. He almost wouldn’t sell it to me. Came back two weeks later and told him how it gave me the best speed and performance so far lol. I do use Rel 17 in it now, but only to save the Rel 26 for my saum haha.
I'm using the 210s in my 7mm wsm and getting very good results with the 168 vlds. One ragged hole at a hundy and validated on gongs out to a 1000 yrds. ES of 18 fps.
Stoked with the results.
Have a few boxes of 215s on the shelf but I think I'll sell em or swap for some 210s.
I use cci br2 large rifle in my saum.
Ok ran a ladder test with the RL26 and the results were a tad confounding!
180ELDM in norma 300 Saum cases necked to 7mm 1x fired and FLRS fed 215 primers.
Using a magnetospeed crono
gn fps
60.0 2511
60.5 2462
61.0 2509
61.5 2570
62.0 2578
62.5 2634
63.0 2622

62.0 2630
62.5 2590
63.0 2674
63.5 2707
64.0 2696
These velocities are well down on what I am getting with Superformance 62.5 = 2950
2 groups with the 180's
60gn - 2495/2466/2495 SD 28 - 1.05moa
61gn - 2536/2529/2536 SD 3.8 - 0.6moa
162's
62.0 - 2636/2637/2605 - 1.0moa
No cratering/flattening of primers, extractor mark etc.
Hmm - I have not seen an increase in powder by a grain resulting in a drop in velocity before. Any suggestions as to the rookie error I might be making?
Cheers AMac
