Sako Vixen 222 Go -To Loads

Finally managed to track down a mint Vixen in 222. (Should never have sold the .223 back in the day)
Anyone with one got a go-to reliable powder/projectile combo. Any help will be appreciated, thanks

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

55gr HDY SP w/c + 25gr AR2208 (compressed load) hits goats like the Hammer of Thor! Use Lapua brass.

    55gr HDY SP w/c + 19.5gr AR2207 - accurate.

    55gr Sierra BK + 26gr W748 - very accurate, accounted for some head-shot fallow <100m.

50gr HDY SP + 21.5gr AR2207 - very accurate, nailed a couple of big billies today out to 100m.

    50gr HDY SP + 22.5gr IMR3031 - very accurate.

    Heed usual warnings!

    I couldn't get the 55 gr SP Hornady's to shoot in my Sako A1 .222 even though I tried BM2 & AR2206H which I have on hand.

I got in some 50 gr SP Hornady's and the results with BM2 have been spectacular but as yet I haven't settled on a load so I'm still playing around

If its an early 222 then twist rates were 1:14 later ones went to 1:12, the result is early ones may not shoot long boat tail 55grn bullets.

Given the serial no., this ones around 1965 so im guessing its 1:14 but will check the twist.

Hi Bos you a lucky man owning a vixen 222.Iv never heard of one till 2 weeks ago.My daughters boy friend brought a 222 up to my place. The vixen hadn't been fired for 13 yrs and he wanted to shoot some roos.So last Saturday went out to the range, gave barrel a clean, fired 3 shots, woow all 3 in a 2 inch group with old ammo, then we zered on ball with new ammo,1/2 moa at a 100yds.
I didn't know the drop at 200yds,so fired 3 at 200yds,hmm 7 inch drop, woow I didn't expect it to drop that much at 200yds.Any how I guess we know where we are shooting at 200yds.
Went into wallaby country that evening, seen a few (40) at 400 to 800yds then one made a mistake standing up at 253 yds.So the 222 lined wally up,2 inchs above the head, bang flop the wally dropped on the spot.Bloody good shot clean thru the sholders.
Nice little rifle, needs new scope and suppresser.Wooden stock like new.
I was impressed, enjoy yr new toy Bos.
