At the Tauranga militaria show this morning, Winchester LR primers we’re being offered at $350 per 1000 from memory.
I’ve just got back into reloading recently after at least 10 year hiatus.
The reason is because I can’t purchase Factory ammo that has the components / configuration that I require.
The reality is that I’m paying way more than Factory per round, but “ Such is life “
I remember a line from the “ Chopper Boys “ book years ago and I’m not quoting accurately but it’s along the line of .
“ Mate the ammo is the cheapest part of the whole operation “
It was only 2019 I bought a 1000 box of federal primers for $99.95
Regular inflation is one thing, but a doubling in price in 3-4 years is a whole new level.
IMO, buy what you can.
As even the yanks are having a hard time finding a regular supply of primers
Bought 2k of Fed 215m earlier in the year at £45 per k. According to the guy running the counter, they were 'old stock' and needed cleared out. OK, no bother pal!
Decided not to be a cunt and only bought 2k out of the 5k available, hope the man upstairs was watching the atheist down below being a good boy and keeping notes... :P
A brick of Winchester 22 power point used to be $25 when I bought my 10/22 as a young fella, was up to Shooters World in Gore every 2nd or 3rd Friday night to restock, ah the good old days!
Is Lindsay still around?
He was/ is a good man
Let me pay off numerous firearms over the years when I was younger.
A short outage seems to be a way to ratchet up prices to the max any person can pay.
A bit like selling a property by tender. Not a fair price, just the maximum possible price.
I doubt that manufacturing and transport costs have gone up all that much and I'm optimistic that once most of the really desperate or really rich buyers have got their whack we'll start to see specials, deals and discounts. Holding my breath .... :)
Attachment 204523 these are gold, I have two of them, bugger
Books??
Google this on eBay @Woody
The books , pethaps , but two Holland and Holland double rifles? Beautiful but a real worry to own at our age mate. Be nice to handle one though I must admit.
New Record..???

No not quite some cci250's went for $131 for 300 a few weeks back
I rember the local council use to give two .22 rounds for every possum tail you brought in. Pre possum fur being worth money. Wonder if they still do it.
@Woody, if I could afford two Holland and Holland doubles, I’d be able to put diesel in my Ute more often to come for a cuppa.
The two I own are a few steps below:D
What is it with TradeMe and people paying over the odds?
Is it the convenience aspect of not having to hunt out supplies from hole in the wall gunshops/suppliers (half the fun!) or is it a bit like farmers at auction agreeing to bid up each other's stock until some idiot actually pays full price for one?
Prices are coming down John, there’s a problem selling them in the UK at present! I was in Purdys, in London, looking at the rack, there was a SxS “Special NZ Edition”, this was 2007, asked the sale guy how much, about 90,000 pound. I asked who the fuck could afford that, they hold them in an unfinished state, You pay, they measure, they finish, 6 weeks wait, collect gun. He said you’d be amazed how many people walk in with a cheque book.
I bought a mugs, made in China, of Purdy design, 19 pound, it hangs in the gun room, with my doubles:D
