    Sideways primer

    Hi

Reloaded my first 223's today and my primer press managed to squeeze a primer sideways into the primer hole..

    What to do ?

I'm thinking of soaking it in water overnight and then popping it out with the necking die tomorrow.

    Any other bright ideas ?

I have put one in backwards but never sideways. I just popped it out never soaked it or anything.

Yea as P says it will pop out. Earmuffs or plugs might help too, just incase

I got one in a case upside down the other day, I have a very fine grounded file, put down shell and tapped out, made sure I closed my eyes when hitting

    Hitting + Tapping + Primer = Ouchies

Push out softly as per normal, hearing and eye protection a sensible choice.

Big of a dilemma when it's upside down and cases are 5 bucks each, pretty safe if you are careful and have a think about how your going to do it

I've done that several times before Kiwi39.

    Especially in progressive presses.

The primer will come out quite easily.

No need to soak it in water or anything drastic like that.

Put it back through your decapping die and it will simply push out like any spent primer.

    Cheers

I hear what your saying, nothing like experience ... better to be on the safe side.

Do you know how it came to be sideways?

Might help in preventing it happening again.

BTW you will have a primer explode on you at some stage of your reloading career and frighten the life out of you.
    Learn from the mistakes.

    Cheers
