Sighting a 223 for longer shots

I know there is a lot of variability in this however. I am keen to know what height above center is preferred when sighting a 223 in at 100m for longer shots to be zeroed at 200m to account for various ammunition types.
I ask this as I have chosen to keep my 223 light and handy running a Leupold Vx3 2.5-8x36 which does not dial. Currently have it sitting at approx. 2" high with 55-60gr ammo.

Probably 1-2 inchs best way would be to test it I ran mine 1 inch high at 100 and still headshot fallow out to 200

Why don’t you just sight it in at 200m , that will tell you exactly how high it should be at 100m for the ammo/ballistics your using .

Sight it in at 50yds with a scope height of 2.5 inches that will give you a 200 yard "second zero" with a trajectory peak of 1.5 inches at around 150. Maximum point blank range is 250 with a bullet drop of 3 inches. It's always worked for me.

For my 223 I am zeroed at 240y that sees me 3" high at 100y and 1.9" low at 300y, peak height above zero is 3.08" above zero at 75y all varified with a chrono and shooting actual targets on the range at those distances...works for me

2" high at 100 will be close but as mentioned previously actually zero at 200 then you will know it is on.

I use the Nikon Spot On website and downloadable ballistic "app" to work out zeroes. Most cartridges and their factory loads are listed and you can also put in handload info. You have to pick from the Nikon range of scopes, but my scopes are bog standard 3-9x or 2.5-10x so I just substitute a similar Nikon model. You can also dial in the sighting in range and sighting in distance. I've found it great and really simple. Hope it helps. Cheers
