    Slow shooting.

Apart from the odd animal I have not been using my hunting rifles much over the last couple years due to getting back into pistols and rattle guns.
I hope to have more time on my hands with a new gig I fluffed my way into recently, so I am planning to be doing a lot more hunting.

I recently decided to use my hunting rifles every break home either hunting or just keeping my eye in.

3 months ago I decided I would fire 1 shot a month with my .260 Ackley, cold bore at 200 yards at the same target.
Our club range only goes to 200 but is a 3 min drive or I would probably have stretched it out a bit on the farm.

    Target since end of November.

    So far just on .9
Shot on fine days with Varying degrees of wind but not very strong.

Shot prone with rear bag and bipod thru my old dunger blaser using an HD5 5-25 Zeiss.
    140 Amax 2940fps
I plan to keep going but if the next couple stay inside the current group I might stop😆

At least you can be sure the barrel has plenty of time to cool down between shots.

I remember you telling me about that John.
But for all the hassle it is just easier for me to drive out the farm and stretch the range.
I have fired a couple LR shots as well out bluebottle way. I have a good wee spot there to shoot 4-600 across some hills and shifty winds and it is all drivable for a quick setup.😆

True. Jokes aside tho, it is a hunting rifle and knowing it is reasonably consistent on a cold barrel gives a ton confidence to stretch the range on an animal if it is what's needed.

I have done velocity tests as well on this barrel over a period of time with 2 loads I shoot thru it, and they have been just as consistent. Even better since I started annealing every firing.

Your three shot group over 3 or so months is way more meaningful than a three shot group fired at the end of an hour on the range. Will give you heaps of confidence.

At least if I miss I know it was something I did wrong from the get go.😆

I have 3 scopes for that barrel.
I store them seperately to the rifle.
A lot is to be said for the reliability of the Blaser mounting system as well.

That new gig you fluffed your way into, sounds likes it's funded by Blaser

    Ha Ha, yeah Na.
Pretty sure the bloke I work for/contract to, could buy out Blaser tho.
Keen hunter/shooter by all accounts and wants to come to NZ hunting with a few of his mates one day.

No one has ever accused me of that before mate😆

    Gunna give it a go?
If I was going to do it again I would probably shoot at 500.

    I am
I will put up the same target every time and do the same
over a year I should have a very interesting group.
I may to do it with several calibres over various reloading, same load but will be keen to seen impact difference.
I will think about which distance.

Good stuff. Please post your results in this thread.

I am back mid March and head away the last week of March for the roar so I will be sure to post another shot before I head bush.
I was thinking 200 is probably not a fair indication of what effects temperature and other variables can have, that's why I was wondering if further out was better.
But my software should account for that. I zero at 200 with my long guns so consistency is the key.

I will be more than happy if I can keep it under 2" over 12 months.
I may start one with my .223 barrel as well.

Just bumping this so I can find it before I head away looking for a stag worth shooting. Will fire a shot for March when the weather allows.
