    Sub sonic 7-08

I'm wanting to load my 7-08 to run a sub sonic load for shooting around the farm.

I'm running a suppressed T3, 160gr cast proj and trailboss. I loaded some up tonight with 11gr of trailboss, but they are still super sonic.

How little powder can I use? If I'm only using 6 or 7 gr, do I need to use a case filler to prevent "flashover"?

    Thanks

I'll send you a PM with what I loaded for 308 subs, well under 11gr TB behind a 200 cast pill.

Not keen to put specific load data on a public forum in case some numbnut decides to try it and blows himself up

Er, when testing subs I am always pretty sure to check the bore to see they have actually gone all the way out Easier to blow up a rifle with subs than you think...

I have got down to 5.6 gr in 308 with 90gr jacketed projectiles.
was around 11.5 with 195gr jacketed.

wouldn't want to go any less than 5 at the absolute minimum i would think.

I haven't tried any in 7mm but if you think bow hunting with a few yards extra range you wouldn't be far off.

Got told by a bow hunter recently his broad heads did way more damage than any sub he had tried.

Sniper80 With the trail boss loads go the opposite way than normal when load developing ie, start with more & reduce .2-.5 grains at a time until its sub.

As ebf said make sure the projectiles leave the bore completely.

I think the best way to treat a sub gun when hunting is to imagine you are using a subsonic 22 & place the shot accordingly.

friend of mine uses these in a fully suppressed 338federal, and reckons they work really well on deer and goats, especially when you add the "payload" although the trajectory is like a "rainbow"

    338-501 .338 Subsonic Controlled Fracturing

The .338 Subsonic Controlled Fracturing was designed for outstanding terminal subsonic performance for suppressed bolt gun or single shot applications. The required barrel twist rate for stability with a muzzle velocity of 1,050 fps is 1:8. Testing has shown terminal performance is dramatically improved by inserting a .17 caliber payload bullet (not included) into the hollowpoint cavity. The hollowpoint was designed with a light .172 press fit and the payload bullet can be installed by pressing it in place or by tapping it in with a mallet. A 20 grain Berger appears to improve terminal performance over a 25 grain Hornady. The function of the payload bullet is to shift the cg forward and to direct the hydraulic energy outwards accelerating the expansion. Weight - 230 grains (without payload bullet) BC G1 1,050 fps (calculated) - 0.525 Length - 1.625 Design velocity - 1,050

Really cool projectiles if you can get them.

A mate was trying them in his AR 300 Blackout, he was struggling for accuracy last time I saw him, he may have sorted that by now ?

I have used them and got them to work in my 16" but not my 10.5" and it was still not grouping anywhere as well as the smk' do.
Expensive as all hell, only shot one goat before I ran out but off that very small sample size it seemed to work well.

Do you use any kind of case filler to prevent flashover? Or is flashover not a problem with trailboss?
