    Targex 6.5mm

For the people that have been asking me on here I now have some 6.5mmTargex 140gr projectiles available, have finished my testing & I'm happy with them.
If you want some thats fine just contact me direct but please dont ask for big lots as I want to spread them around to shooters that need them & I dont want to see any show up on trademe for a blown up price.
If you get them off me & aren't happy just contact me & I will refund on them & sell to someone else who needs them.
    Cheers

What sort of twist rate do they need?

Can't see that 1/2 would matter at all
Because I have a 264 win mag barrel that's a 1-9 for a future project. That I'm sorry to say is the standard twist for them usually but not ideal with some of the new High BV and long bullets
If I wanted to use these usually excellent projectiles and they need a quicker twist I'd be out of luck

I can send you some to try when mine arrive @csmiffy, pretty sure they will work in a 1-9

Well done mate! I'd love to give some a try.
    Any additional info on them?
Directed toward match or hunting or a bit of both? Large or small hp? J4 jackets I'm guessing?
Any idea of the approx G1 BC?
    Std boat tail or rebated?
    Ogive design?
I've been running your 6mm bullets for a while now and they are fantastic!
I've been running the 6.5 140gr Berger VLD Hybrids which are extremely accurate but need a slight "adjustment" to the meplat to get them to expand on game with the lower velocities of the 6.5x47 Lapua and Creedmoor.

Good on you for tackling this project, I'm sure they will sell well for you

    My 6.5x65R is a 1:8" twist barrel
You 1:9" twist barrel is 10% slower but still unlikely to be a problem with 140 grain target projectiles

But will watch this thread with interest as I'm getting low in Lapua Scenar 139s which I use for hunting
I have found these very effective hunting projectiles despite the small hollow point and would have shot at least 50 deer, 20 chamois and a couple of bull tahr ( not ideal for tahr) with them
Have thought of making a jig to open up and uniform these hollow points

I was afraid of opening this can of worms. Can feel the pain in my press arm & shoulder already!
These are my usual design, rebated base & ULD profile.
I keep the tip slightly open on them to get the best performance on game. This comes at a cost to BC's but an animal running of because it got hit by a bullet that had a higher BC doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
For anyone wanting to use these for longer range target shooting I will be doing a closed tip version which will lift the BC higher but I wouldn't recommend them for hunting.
Also making a 120gr 6.5mm but don't have any available for sale right now(I used them all cause it was fun)!
The question on twist rate for a 9", I would think they will be fine but best to let me know when you want a few & I can get some to you to try.
BC on the open tip will be approx.500
Closed tip will be quite a bit higher BC but not for game.
    Cheers

Gidday Bryn - Congrats on getting these done. Could you please post up a list of all projectiles you offer, I know it's been done before but I can't find it. In a new thread would be great . . . .

    You are probably right.
It seems that it is the later tipped projectiles that are just above 140 seem to be touch and go in some 264s.
They are longer and stuff things up a bit..
If these were a long ogive type it might be the same thing
If they are up to the usual.high standards they will be a very good bullet

Is the 6.5 for those who cant handle the velocity and brutal effect of 95gr Targex? LOL.

To anyone wanting a list of what I make which was asked for please contact me direct & I can send one.
Not really wanting to turn this into a sale advertisement. I just wanted to let it be known they are now available for the ones that were asking me for the 6.5mm projectiles.
It was mentioned about possibly opening the tips up more on my bullets.
Be careful if you do that, if the tips are made too open it becomes possible for the bullet to blow up quicker not giving the penetration needed first before opening internally.
Need an open tip for expansion but too much of a good thing will no longer be a good thing.
Other question I dont think I answered was that these are made using Berger J4 jackets like all the rest of my bullets.
There will be price increases before too long also as the jacket prices have gone up with our dollar etc etc & the freight has gone through the roof too.
