Australian Shooters Journal did a series of articles (around the 1980s) on modifying the 22 Martini to different cartridges. The 5.6x57 was the longest that could be chambered past the curve of the breech block. If I remember correctly, the 223Rem reamer can be used to make a 5.6x57 chamber by running the reamer in a bit deeper. Also, remembering, the thicker neck 5.6x57 brass was only in early rifles/cartridges and then the chamber specs were re-jigged to standard thickness brass. The cartridge fulfilled the minimum ft/lb qualifications for hunting chamois.
