    Ultrasonic Cleaner

I appreciate this subject being dicussed several times in the past. I am considering buying one to do cartridge cases, but also jewelery and small firearms parts, mechanical parts etc. Is there a suitable model that will do all of these? I would probably only clean about 50-70 cases at a time so don't need a huge tank. Is a variable frequency, time and tempature model prefered? Also is a home made cleaning solution suitable for everything except mechanical parts which I would probably buy the correct solution for this.
Thanks for any advice and suggestions.

I use an Aldi ultrasonic jewellery cleaner.
    Holds about 20 30.06 cases.

    75% water. (warm preferred)
    25% household Vinegar
A squirt of dish washing liquid.

Run about 3 minutes is enough.
    I deprime before cleaning.
Rinse well after. If you like add a but of bicarb to neutralise the acid.

You would need a different recipe for some gem stone. They may be sensitive to acid. e.g Soap will likely bugger opal, acid too.

Shower power bam. Comes from the supermarket, $6 or so a refill bottle. Citrus based detergent with surfactants so basically the same as the commercial cleaners without the horrendous price tax. Works good in the shower too...

On the subject of size, bigger is sometimes not better as they can become hard to tune. Anyone complaining of slow operation probably is struggling with tuning the cleaner (which is a way of saying adjusting the height of the objects in the bath to not attenuate the cleaner frequencies). You know when they are set OK, as they create 'dirt explosions' when you switch the cleaner on and in the case of reloading brass it effectively dances in the bath. Google up tuning an ultrasonic cleaner.

Variable freq cleaners aren't required, it's a workaround for tuning the cleaner and if it's tuned right the water/solution heats up anyway so a heater isn't necessary.

For jewellery as noted often times you only need water or maybe a little dishwashing liquid, more aggressive mixtures can damage more porous gems. Diamonds, do your worst haha...
