Are there any offers that cover a wide range of middle of the road chamberings. Thinking of making life easy and limiting the number of powders I use.
Mainly 08 based cases 270. 6.5grendel and 6.5cm.
Obviously won't maximize performance in easy case but a happy compromise
Between ADI-2208 and 2209, you have a huge part of the spectrum covered. The other pairing is 2206H and 2209, the ..06 generally for small cases.
I figured 2208/9 would be in the mix. My other question was about other brands of powders. I'm relatively new to reloading and have stuck with adi powders.
Doesn't really work for the calibers you list.
But W748 is a great powder to have plenty on hand as it can happily cover a huge range of calibers.

Always nice to have something that covers multiple applications and because W748 isn't new and trendy its been generally pretty available in the last few years while plenty of others have been unobtainium.
Another vote for 2208.
Have used it in 223, 260, 308, 300 saum.
Maybe not the best in every case, but very good in each case.

I would check if the particular powder has load data available for all the calibres and projectile weights you want to run... That means they have tested it...
2208/varget seems like an obvious choice.
2208/2209 as others have said, 2217 if magnum cartridges are involved.
These are the same as Varget, H4350 and H1000, which you will see in a lot of American load data.

I'm using AR2208 for both 30.06 and 223. Works for me.
But consider AR2206H as well.

Look at the ADI site and see what powders each of the cartridges you shoot all call for with the weight bullets you want to shoot. They each have a narrow range.
If there is an overlap in two or more ranges (e.g. 270 and 6.5 Creedmoor with both eat 2209), great. But the burn rate of all of the powders is fixed. There aren't any that have magical properties that make them flexible to use with cartridges outside of their usual ranges.
Notable exceptions of course are powders like trail boss. 2206h can also be used to make reduced loads in just about everything. Key thing here is they're both reduced and not suitable for working up full power loads in everything.

My picks would include AR2206H for its sheer flexibility. I use it more than any other powder including reduced loads in my old soldiers. AR2209 would work well in the Creedmoor and even the .270. The Grendel however would need a faster powder such as BM8208. You could just go with BM8208 and AR2209 but I would sorely miss AR2206H.

I'm currently running 2208 in .308 and 22-250 as its what I have and due to shortage of funds as usual buying more powder is out of the question for now. I live by the motto if it works leave it alone and don't over complicate things.

go back not many years and winchester had 3 powders thats it..just three for centrefire 760 for big cases 748 middle and 296 for little stuff
its not a silly idea to want to use as few as possible. years back I used 2206 in 223 and 270....great in 223..it went bang and killed stuff in 270 but definately not best choice....load data was from early paper manual.
I've been using w760 over a few cartridges. Moving to staball 6.5 when that runs out.
Yes 760 is interchangeable with 2209 in 06 cases, ok in .308 cases with heavies and a bit more useful in the smaller cases like a .22/250 and .243.

When changing between the adi and hodgdon 'twins' do people just use their exact same load data or re develop a load. How interchangable are they

Does everything from 243 to 270 to 7mm08 to 300WM.
Usually works best with the 'heavy for calibre' bullets and a bit of compression.
Bit dirty and temp sensitive being a ball powder, but velocity is good.
Meters well and still relatively available here in the UK.

Yep. Had exactly the same happen to me, going from an older to newer batch of AR2209. Never thought there was any need to compare batches first. At the range I realised immediately with the first shot the new batch felt and sounded different. And the chronograph confirmed higher velocity with the new batch.Quote:
