I have 1:7 20" Ranger AR15 that gives 12mm groups at 100 metres with ADI Outback 69 gr HP factory ammo. I have some Sierra 69 gr HP bullets that I intend to use with Benchmark 2 powder, and hope to at least replicate the factory load. Give the 69 grain load a try!
Cool thanks was thinking of trying sierra 69 tipped matchkings
Used to have the exact same set up, 60gr hornday and a full charge of 06H worked well.
68gr Hornady BTHP, 65gr Game King, 60gr NBT, 55gr Nosler soft point. Try those.
Targex shoot well
Have tried a few through my 16" 1:7 barrel.
Sierra 53gr Match and BM2 (very accurate)
Barnes 62gr and 2206H (1/2 MOA, hard hitting hunting round)
Sierra 69gr TMK and CFE223 (very accurate, clover leaf)
Sierra 63gr SP and 2208 (not bad,1/2 - 3/4MOA)
Nosler 64gr and 2206H (3/4 MOA)
Have tried other combos but these were the best ones
I'm using 65gr gamekings and BM2
75gr Amax and 2208 in my savage 1 in 7.
match bullets are longer so you'll get more luck from them its not about wait so much as bullet length imo
Shooting Sierra 65gn Gamekings and 77gn Tipped Matchkings in my 1 in 7" twist 5.56 barrel.
Main issue with the otherwise excellent 77s is seating to fit the AR mag, so not much powder in the case.
Welcome to Sako club.
My 16" 1/7 shoots everything well ftom 45-92gr, except 55gr hornady Sp, even cloverleaf's 50gr vmax and 45gr varmint.
As mentioned above it seems to be more to do with prpjectile bearing surface than weight
I haven't had much luck the Hornady 55gr soft points either
I just use the 60 grain hornady soft point flat base and 24.5 grains 2206h, works well and cheapest round, groups well in NEA 18'' barrel and also groups well in DPMS 16''
after a bitof testing the 69gr sierra hpbt is the one it likes
