The good old rem mag is hard to beat haha. Definitely will be tempted on a 7 PRC if they come out in a good affordable factory platform but I’m pretty happy with my 7mm SAUM - things a laser and hammers stuff. The last year or so I wanted to focus on not messing with or changing my rifles too much and just enjoy the hunting side of things, plus I have been a bit sidetracked with some other hobbies.

Ive read that sentence 5 times now..each time the same though struck me..... we are talking about reloading, being able to download any cartridge is one of the really neat things about doing so... just because its got a big case doesnt mean you need to stoke it up to the hilt.
taken to extreme the wee doughnuts of trail boss can tame pretty much anything down to fun and managable levels without a lot of effort.
there is no reason a fella (or felless) cant have mild loads for most of the time and some superduperGaryCooper loads for the occasions they might be needed...big angry animal or longer shot are the only two that really justify the added pain LOL

If you talk to knowledgeable Drivers they all mention that they prefer to drive a “Slow Car Fast” rather than a “ Fast Car Slow “
I don’t like owning or using something that is constantly being “ Reined in “ the whole time .

Secondly , my requirements now don’t include the need for a “ Big Banger “ and truth be told probably never did .

Thirdly , the advancement in modern Projectile/Cartridge/Barrels/Optics/Powders etc etc design has resulted in performance from what were traditionally considered “ Pip Squeak “ rounds that can’t and shouldn’t be compared to what they were doing 25 years ago .

Finally as I said in my initial post “ I’m a Big Girls Blouse “

PS - I have “ Down Loaded “ .308 / 243 / .223 for various reasons in the past . After much time and Feckery and hours spent in the reloading room , I decided to just buy the appropriate Caliber that I was trying to emulate.

Well I just did a quick count up from my Firearms Registration spread sheet and I reload 25 different calibers ( 4 calibers have multiple rifles in same caliber ) and of those 25 calibers there are 5 that I could get factory ammunition for.
Now it likely wouldn't be optimum for those particular rifles

The other 20 calibers simply aren't ever going to be factory rounds ever again.
So reloading obsolete calinbers, casting and sizing bullets to custom sizes is essential in my world

I lent my .223 Lee ( Whackamole ) to a friend recently after showing him quickly how to use it .
Talked to him the other night and he has already loaded and shot over 200 rounds and asked if he could keep it.
I told him not to be a tightarse and buy a new one , they aren’t exactly expensive and I think everyone should have at least one of them in their reloading cupboard , so give my one back soon

    Reloading is great.
I quickly wanted some 257R for a hunt the other day. Into the shed - grabbed some resized brass and stuffed in some primers. Scales set, R26 in the trickler, used the last loaded round to set the die to length and 15 rounds loaded in 20 minutes. Would have taken longer to drive to the shop and back to buy some - only to find its unavailable.
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing, and right-doing, there is a field. I will meet you there.

Had a mate around for first time reloading experience in 7mm08. Not a calibre I shoot but somehow I've finished up reloading 7mm08 for 3 guys. An hour and a half later he went home with half a doz bright shiny 139gn Hdy Interlocks in his once fired PPU brass sitting on a suitable charge of AR2208. I showed him the first 2 of each step then he was hands on. Lots of questions on whys and wherefores and a few " wow, how cool is that! "

    I think he's hooked.

Some .375 Ruger with Barnes TSX 270 gn loaded today for shooting tomorrow. Load development work. I think a useable load is sorted but have been getting flyers from the third shot in the magazine. Recoils has been shortening that round by about 0.5mm so I have three different COALs here to see if I can overcome the issue and maintain accuracy without having to crimp rounds.

good to see you got my point..... its possible to do all sorts of tweaking
IF you happened to own a 7mm rm say you got Granddads one given to you..... it is feasable to use it still....and the reining in amount is entirely up to you.
your last sentence works both ways too......guys now pushing the 223 into what was 243 territory and 25 years ago the ability to rangefind and dial wasnt as common so flat shooting rounds were order of the day.... but folks arent rushing to sell off the 25/06 or swift they have used since then LOL
horses for courses and yes I have mustered stock on a thouroughbred so know about reining in LOL.
