It's not really new, I had a .223AI shooting 75gr Amax about 15 years ago, shooting long ranges with it.

Nothing much has really changed with tech since then, the knowledge is just much more widely distributed.

I’m “Hearing Ya “ but 2009 was a lot different from 1999 which is what I was talking about .
I’m sadly old enough to know what shooting a sub 30 cal round was like way back then , both in performance and attitudes from fellow hunters .
That was a time of “ No Deer “ and if you were lucky enough to actually see one then you needed to hit it with a “ Big Bullet “
There was always the talk of the “Ex Culler “ who used a .222 , but those guys were only talked about in hushed tones while furtively glancing around .
