Went duck shooting for the first time in 15 years. A kind young fella invited me to shoot with him on a farm pond.

I use a Side by side SKB Royal light 100 with opened up forcing cones and chokes. Not steel proof.

So I got a packet of 36 gram Eley Alphamax No 4 lead shells and removed the lead shot. I weighed and replaced 32 grams of Bismuth no 5 shot. I first tried this about 15 years ago and killed a few ducks.

On Saturday I got 3 ducks with 14 shots. Quite rusty as I missed at least 4 or 5 easy ones. Good fun.

    1) 130gr Hot-Cor at SAAMI length, 64.3 - 67.0 grains AR2213sc in 0.3 increments
    2) 162gr ELD-M at 0.5mm jump, 69.5 - 72.0 grains Magpro in 0.5 increments
    3) 175gr ELD-X at 0.5mm jump, 68.5 - 71.0 grains Magpro
    4) 180gr hybrids at 0.4mm jump, same charge.

Surely one of these will shoot! Yeah, I know I should do a few at each charge and possibly a bigger range but I have limited pills & powder. Massive thanks to a good bugger on here for helping me out with most of these!

Loaded a few 223 with 52 gr Speer HP and H 335. Sends them along at 3280 fps out of my 20 inch barrelled Mod 7. Shot that load out to 355 yds the other day in gusty conditions , 3shots into 3.46 inches. Pretty happy with that.

Where is your brother in law based? A quick search shows Reloaders have Large Rifle primers up north and Gunworks have them down south. Both have suitable powders and projectiles available too.

Yes, 1:10 Twist True Flite barrel, 23 inches, on my Sako M591 Left Hand.
Contrary to expectations I found they shot very badly. Not a single load gave any indication it could be refined to something decent, so I have given up on this projectile in this rifle.
Might run a few through my Ruger American Rifle and see what I get.
The Sako shoots like a laser with Hornady ELD-X 90 gn.

20 x 7mm Saum 180 eldm with 62.7gn RL 26 Norma cases white river LR primers.

Dropped back .5gn from last loads which averaged 2865fps (20” barrel) and i felt were a little warm.

6.5PRC - Norma brass, Fed 210M, 144gr ELDx, 57.2 gr Super performance for 2963 fps and very accurate. This is the end of the first box of ELDx.

Just loaded another 50 X Hornet rounds. Cases fired twice Hornady. 108 10.5grns ADI AR2207. CCI 400 primer (almost run out of those, changing to Remington Match Primers, for no good reason). Projectiles Nosler Shots 50grn Spitzer #48400 BC 0.2192 SD 0.142 L 0.640. Recommended OACL 1.850, but I've locked my Weihrauch CH66J in the bench vice and tired that length in the magazine and feed. Basically that length doesn't work for my rifle, so settled on 1.775.
Interestingly the Bibles show a range of COAL for 50grn projectiles: 1.723 Speer, 1.720 & 1.755 Sierra, 1.780 Hornady, 1.850 Hodgdon, 1.850 ADI.
The Nosler is the first and heaviest 50grn projectile I have loaded for the Hornet. It will be interesting to see how it groups and it's terminal results on pest animals.

Fark. Forgot about that, a long blunt bullet that doesn't fit into the pointy bullet seater means the adjustment is a bit thwack. I just got to the cannelure and cammed over on the press... Oops.

The RCBS collet puller struggled to grab it too, not much parallel shank as it's all in the case (Hornady Sub-x 175gr subsonic). Got it apart and recovered the components though so no real loss...
