Ha. Not sure I can give advice because things have changed a bit in 46 years. But knowing my daughter in-laws like I do a change of language to "our son" from "my son" might save your ears.

When our first son was being born the Dr turned to me and said "the first time, and a boy".
I replied "no, dozens of times nothing".
