Win BRA 740 and 770 powders are listed in the old Cyril Waterworth manuals and I am wondering if anybody knows anything about them. 740 is about the same speed as IMR3031 or a little slower than AR2201. 770 is slower around IMR4064. I suspect they may be surplus military powders packed in Aus as was 4740 but would like to know for sure.

Lots of views but no replies. It was a long shot anyway. The interweb has produced next to nothing as well. Thinking about it Winchester produced powder for the military from WW2 onwards (or a little earlier) and only offered it to the public from 1960. The use of the three number code beginning with 7 and the letters BR in the prefix are roughly similar to the later 748BR and 760BR. Additionally 740 is close to 748 and 770 to 760 in speed so perhaps these were powders used in Winchester commercial ammo and exported as bulk powder prior to 1960 before they were upgraded to cannister powders. Perhaps I will just go with that.
