    Winchester Ammo question

    Hi,
Would appreciate your feedback on Winchester Ballistic Silvertip on your red deer.
Plan on useing that ammo in 300 WM 180 gr bullets.
    Thanks John

I thought (but may be totally wrong) that the winchester BT ammo was a Nosler BT projectile, the Ballistic Silver tip just being a variation on colour (with the Lubalox coating) made specifically for Winchester.
Even if they are not a 180gn 30 cal bullet from a 300wm would have to be pretty bad not to take out a red deer.

Should work a treat. I use the Noslar Ballistic Tip (180 gr) in my 300 WM and they are devastating. Shoulder shots damage a fair bit of meat, but they go down quick. The 180 gr Silver tip is basically the same so results should be the same.

I have been using 130 gr .270WSM Winchester BST. Excellent long range performance. I have heard they can suffer short range failure in high velocity calibers. I have placed a shoulder shot into a red at about 50 yards, it hit high and didn't penetrate the bone.

The odd thing about winchester BST is, at my local H&F anyway, they were cheaper than winchester power points.

The Nosler website says winchester use their BST projectiles. I'm going to reload BST in 150 gr when I get my gear set up.

I imagine 180gr BST wont have a problem taking anything down. You may not get much meat off it though.
