    .22 birdshot

Does anyone have a few rounds of .22 birdshot lying around? I've been using a 410 for rats up trees but am thinking about my neighbor. Want to try the birdshot before buying. It will be a 5m shot at max. Went to guncity today but they had none.

    Cheers team

.22 birdshot is highly unlikely to kill a rat at 5 metres

    Half that distance -maybe

2nd that. gave it a go and it was not really effective past 4m. The .177 air rifle was doing a better job

Do you have a listing cal rifle? 357mag, 44Mag etc? If so PM me. I make shotshells for both and its not too hard.
I know a lot but it seems less every day...

That should have said "Do you have a pistol cal rifle?"

they were used as fairground rounds instead of airguns. pretty much just primer and projectile

I put a 10 shot mag of .22 birdshot at a matchbox at around 5 metres, managed one pellet just inside the edge of the matchbox....I might be just useless or the ammo was.

    Hi There
made up a couple of smooth bore 22 cal. jobs to test these out a lot better patterns as the grooves open the shot pattern to form a open center ring
the crimp end shot shells were a lot louder than the blue capsule brand that put up a better pattern for me
4-5 m best as in the above post Cheers

I had little to no success with .22 birdshot on rats

    Funny story.
An acquaintance of mine from a very old rural hunting family in Ahaura was trying to get rud of rats in the workshop/hashed when he was a young fella.
Tipped the lead out and replaced it with wheat. 12 guage I might add.
That will work mint in the shed.
First shot at a rat in the rafters.
Boom. Rat disappeared but didn't know if he got it. Also a neat 1" hole in the corrie iron. Wheat a bit tough at that distance.
Probably didn't make it out of the wad.
Also must be said he didn't do it again lol

    Funny Story too
my father in law [many years ago had a chook house next to the double garage full of fancy boats ,cars etc
and thus there were rats pored petrol [ the real gas back in the day super ] down the rat holes to flush them out and lit the match
a resounding BOOM on fire rats came pouring out their holes that wernt too concussed with the bang and ran under all his toys
    luckily nothing else caught fire
