I think it's the age old answer of matching rifle to ammo. However I have found that CCI seems to run better through the rifles I have owned over the years. I have a French Unique semi auto, very reliable with the ability to cycle over 600 rds of subsonic before powder fouling produces the odd jam ( maybe two in a hundred ).
I shot 25 rabbits this weekend and as long as I did my part the CCIs put them all down with only 3-4 runners that went 30 mtrs and then folded.
Nothing wrong with sub sonic in both accuracy and killing performance on small game.
As for the 17hmr I have mixed thoughts, stunning little killer but I have found it fickle at times , shot rabbits to 200yrds in right conditions but past 130 yrds I could hit them ok but a lot got back up and staggered off or got down holes.
They have stopped doing that now I have gone to 223, in fact quite often two halves go in different directions![]()
