    22LR hunting ammo

Hey folks just got a query of sorts.

Now I'll preface this query with:

    1) accuracy is important and each gun likes a different type of ammo especially as 22's can be fussy.

    2) reliability- some Semis are a bit fussy but obviously reliability is first and foremost

With this outlined. I'll be borrowing a 10/22 and haven't shot small game in years.

Mainly possums being the target out to 70m.

I remember CCI mini mag being quite potent but have heard the latest batch is a bit lacking in punch from some of my mates...

What have people found ammo wise that is worth considering?

    Cheers Folks

+1 on cci subsonic. Incredibly accurate in mine, and hares usually drop, or run a bit then drop.

Yep ive only used the CCI hollow point subs in my CZ452 for small game, even out beyond 100 yards its surprising how well they kill rabbits, plovers, magpies etc, havnt shot possums with it thou.

CCI Segmented Subsonic is absolutely my favourite (they also do a supersonic). Very accurate and very effective. Seems to be good to 150m and runs well in semis.

Yes I agree this stuff is devastating on small game. It even became my go to for euthanasing stock for a few years
I'd like to verify your clam.

I completely forgot about the CCI segmented stuff. Shows how long it's been since I've hunted with a 22 lol

Oh also it needs to be preferably supersonic but that segmented stuff will do the trick.

    Cheers folks

My 10/22 loves CCI Mini Mag and is accurate enough for possum at 70m. Have experienced no reliability problems that have not been mag induced.

CCI Standard is good but many a good group is ruined by a flier. Subsonic are accurate but may not have the chops to clean kill beyond 40m.

I just use cci standard target stuff. If you started out with an air rifle youll know about shot placement without fancy pills

Mine liked and was very accurate with CCI standard velocity, dont need anything fancy, faster just becomes unstable in some rifles.

CCI is the most reliable as far as evry shot being the same velocity, i like the segmented HV ones myself
