Interesting - have long been aware 22s will shoot superbly with chopped 15" and 16" barrels, but you can actually chop them to about 10" before significant velocity/energy losses begin. I would like to bench test the same rifle with 18" and then 10" barrels at 50 and 100m.

They only ever had long barrels for sight radius didnt they? which is now a moot point with scopes.

Have been chopping 22s down to 15 and 16" for years and they have performed extremely well on the range and in the field - but this data has certainly taught me something..!

Just remember when you do something stupid and need to re-crown you need barrel. Same goes for larger rifles....

I would be interested to know whats the best barrel lenght for subsonics in terms of sound suppression ?

My Jw15a has an 11 inch barrel and the chrony showed the Winchester subs only a bit slower than the box stated

Longer = Lower muzzle pressure = quieter - as long as it doesn't go supersonic as you note. 3" is louder than 13"

Can size kicks in to gimp.

I have a suppressed 4" barrel on a sig mosquito.
Suppression is shit. It is as almost as loud firing subs without the suppressor.
Could be a crappie supp tho it looks no different to some other .22 rifle suppressors I have used.
