    Chinese DOC copies

I understand that Chinese copies of the DOC traps are now appearing in NZ and wanted to get more information about them.

I am in the UK and there may be a market for them here provided they are any good for stoats as we can no longer use Fenn Mark4 for stoats here.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Although Phill gifted his claim to intellectual property rights for the DOC series, he has been disappointed to learn that the traps have been sent to China by others and copied for the New Zealand market.

“The Chinese rip-offs are being sold in New Zealand as DOC traps,” Phill says. “They’re sold as humane and they’re not. They even have my name and DOC stamped on them

Probably the 150s brought in by Outdoor Outfitters (Gun Citys wholesale division) and sold retail through GC, H&F etc.

    gee thanks Micky .

Sorry Tomdhu this probably doesnt help you ? 55six just buy the genuine NZ made DOC 200s , if you are coastal buy the stainless ones, if you are inland the zinced ones are good enough. CMI springs are your go to people.

Moa, fenns are not allowed here either to trap ferrets and stoats because they dont meet NAWAC [national animal welfare advisory council ] because they dont kill the animal quick enough. They are ok for rats however.

150s are not suited to ferrets.

Selling similar product is one thing, disregard IP and using others name on it is another matter. I am wondering who sent out the OEM order to factory in China?

I'd stick to real thing if possible. Have passed NAWAC and will last the distance.

Since 2020 the approval for use of the Mark4 Fenn on stoats was withdrawn - a crazy situation because the UK Govt went to sleep over the issue and they adopted the AIHTS position on stoats by default.

The Fenns are still the top traps here for rats, grey squirrels, weasels, rabbits and mink. They cost less than 25% of the cost of a DOC150 hence virtually everyone ignore the law and continues with the Mark4 for staoats.

I read that article and frankly it was diminished in terms of credibility because it was over-negative about Fenns. The comments were inappropriate deliberately misleading. I have a lot of respect for Phil but I cannot believe what he is quoted as saying.

As for getting his thumb caught in the Fenn then that is just farcical. ASs a trapping expert he would have known how to set a Fenn without risking on's digits.

This link shows how it's done.https://www.trapbarn.com/video-on-setting-a-fenn-trap/

try a connibear....the others are childsplay in comparison.

oh and I reckon anyone who has set traps of any discription for any length of time in decent numbers (more than a dozen more than once a week) who says they have never caught themselves is telling porkies.....as school kids we all ran gin traps and yip they hurt like hell but you live n learn.
