Thread: DOC150 competitors

Phil Waddington bequeathed the design of the DOC series traps to the nation and since then, there has been several different manufacturers producing "copies" of these traps.

I would like to know how you rate these different products eg Haines, Connovation etc and how the imported copies from China sold by Outdoor Outfitters/Gun City compare to the genuine Kiwi products.

Have the Chinese rip-offs made any real inroads into the market?

did you not like the answers you got to same question in the other thread????

I guess an alternative would be if purchased 1 of each trap you could give us a review of them.
I should imagine that Chinese copies wouldn't be of the same materials as the nz ones are.

Simple - they are not as good !!

I have used connovation copies and outdoor outfitters ones. They almost always need a bend or tweek to 'tune' them properly, straight out of the box.

I have even had one I had to take the angle grinder to in order to get it going properly !!

That's interesting and quite often the case with quite a few products from over there.

But, may I ask about one specific aspect of the outdoor outfitters traps and that is the strength of the springs.

I have sourced items from China in the past and it has been the springs that let them down. Whether they use the wrong manganese/ carbon/steel mix or whether they don't do the heat treatmentright I dont know.

But I really would like if you can advise about their springs compared to the real DOCs
