On our post Christmas visit to my parents place in the Waikato they insisted I bring my 22 as they had quite a few rabbits running around. Now this is a 20 acre orchard/dairy grazing block and the most rabbits I had ever shot there was 6 so I wasn't expecting too much. Well over 4 days I ended up with 46 rabbits, 5 possums and 3 mynas! Now I know that's small numbers to some guys but this was on a mere 20 acres in the middle of Waikato dairy country! No wonder my parents were anxious for me to bring a rifle.
There were a couple of crafty ones I couldn't connect with so that leaves some to breed up for next time. My kids are a bit small to take sneaking about yet but I showed them the rabbits being cut up for the dog so they aren't squeamish and understand what it's all about.
My 22 is a BRNO model 2 deluxe that Dad helped me buy brand new when I was 16 way back in 1994 or therabouts, I was all set to buy a Norinco as my first firearm but my father (who is a non shooter) came to the gun shop with me and thought the Norinco was crap and said he would pay the difference between that and a BRNO! Pretty good for a non shooting Dad, I'll never sell it or part with anyway and hopefully one of my kids can have it one day.
Anyway it's a fantastic straight shooter, I only use Winchester subs and with a Hawke 3-9x40 scope with ballistic lines I confidently shoot out to over 100m, best so far is 105 metres.
