Anyone using Ghillie suits? Thinking of getting one so I can sneak up on the magpies, they have gotten a bit wary around here.

Get a $12 decoy from h&f which you may not need. And a distress call cd or ipod tune I think there at hunting and fishing too.
Works a charm!
Or welcome to long range shooting.
Chances are that even with a Gillie suit magpies will still see your movement and fly off.
Magpies usually frequent the same spots, so I'd find some tress or bushes and just hide and wait for them.
Haven't ever seen the need personally to go super sniper on them.
22 hornet does the job nicely
So do 22-250 (ai) and 204 :-)
I would tend to agree as even a window opening at home scares them off since we have slayed many, many magpies from the house. Movement is definitely your enemy. There are many magpie distress calls on the net that can be downloaded to bring them in nice and close and in to an area that you are well set up for.
So ambush rather than stalk, otherwise increase the caliber to enable longer shots.
Wait at their roosting tree in the evening can't beat the 12G for this type of shooting.
Thanks for the replies all Went to browse at local H&F notice the word ( Browse ) Knew I shouldnt have gone. Came back home with a Fat barreled Marlin .17 hmr So back at the maggies again I hope. Need a suppresor though as it does have a loud sorta crack to it.
