Thread: Looking for a new 22LRr rimfire

Fellas, trying to avoid paying cz or anschutz prices for this one. Any lower price range guns fighting out of their weight division at the moment? As in good accuracy? I heard the Ruger americans are worth a look, also one of the savage models?

The jw15 has always fought out of its price range, probably one of the more accurate 22s out there

I have a jw15 my mate has a brno the bivgest difference in accuracy between them is the nut behind the but

I have both Brno and jw15,trigger and length of the stock is the only difference I reakon,the Brno is original with long barrel and open sights,the jw is chopped to 16in and suppressed,I usually grab the jw...

While the JW15 is a cracking rifle for the cash, isn't there some models that are best to stay away from?

Any made in China,!!

My Chinese made EM332 will shoot waaay better than many western made rifles...

@Sasquatch has a beautiful little Browning bolt action 22, a very accurate and comfortable rifle to shoot. Definitely worth checking out if you are not looking for a semi-auto. I dont know what model etc, hopefully he will tune into this and let you know if it is something you are interested in.

well i'm a 10/22 fab but now also have a browning l/a which i s a total tack driver. shame stalinda made me have the mag chopped down though

Sixtus, since you are in Australia , you should get a Lithgow. They are really well made and you would be supporting the armement industry and economy of your country.

My first firearm was a JW15 when I was 17, I have easily shot more animals with this rifle than all of my other rifles added together.
A decade later I upgraded to a CZ452, and later a Weihrauh HW60J.

Comparing the above rifles:
Price difference is significant.
Workmanship difference is significant.
Accuracy difference is negligible, especially for the purposes of rabbit shooting and general paper punching.

If you value quality machining and workmanship, a secondhand CZ is a hard to beat.
If you want value for money, more than enough accuracy, and a rifle that you won't worry about getting scratched when out hunting, 100% go with the JW15.

Keen to hear what others say about Savage and Marlin.

We must have polished/chopped 20 or more JW15s for people over the years. With a little QC finishing they are very effective wee hunters. Almost all under 0.5" groups at 50m at best - some of them under this. A chopped JW is one of my favorite worker 22s. Models to avoid - those branded Polytech, and many from GC.

Other useful makes to choose from - entry level Savages, Marlins esp 925/980 bolts - very sharp shooters, CZ/Brno, Toz 78, earlier Lithgow model 12, Winnie models 67/69 etc.

Be careful buying older or Euro models for frequent use as replacing parts (mags/springs/pin etc) can be a problem.

With worker 22s you can spend alot more and get less. Always a treat to own a beautifully finished rifle with nice timber etc - but they are not ideal for the working rifle role in and out of truck etc. We don't want to mark them. Mine stay in the closet for occasional use, and its the basic wee marlins/JWs that do the day to day duty - and do it very well.

Looked at one of the new Tikka 22LR's in the shopt the other day. Very smooth action and it pretty much a scaled down T3 centerfire. Very nice. The run around the $1K mark

Love my Tikka T1x, not sure it'll be any cheaper than a CZ though.

If there are and used CZ/Anschutz/Tikka in your budget I'd go that route rather than a brand new cheaper rifle.
