My first wabbit

Last night i shot my first wabbit, yesterday my big brother let me shoot some targets with grandads slug gun and i did very well, i shot right handed with a strong left eye, untill dad picked this up and got me shooting left handed. Dad also promised to take me wabbit shooting when we visited grandad in the Wairarapa, so last night he did, i followed him around and watched him miss a magpie, then we saw a cat but didnt shoot it in case it was the neighbours, it also scared the only wabbit away that we saw, but then another wabbit popped out from under the fence line, dad said sneak quietly right behind him so i did the wabbit knew we were there and hopped back over to the fence line but thought it was safe and out of range from the slug gun, it didnt know we had dads .22, dad put the rifle down on a turn style and said line it up just like you did with the slug gun, i was very steady and pulled the trigger, the wabbit jumped striaght up in the air and dropped on the spot, i had a big grin on my face but dads was bigger, we took the wabbit back to the house and no one beleved i shot it, but dad and i know, it was a head shot too so dad skinned and gutted it and now it is in the slow cooker for dinner

They were shot at 100m at 24mm dots. The first three shots were the ones just above the dot on the left hand target. Then things went pear shaped when someone thought they needed to close their eyes when they pulled the trigger because it jumped a bit more than the 22lr. :huh:

We need to get back to the range don't we?

I always close my eyes .. and dream the round on its way to where i"m aiming it.

I pull the trigger as hard as I can too, too give that little piece of lead a bit of extra "oomph"

Sounds like that technique will work well Tim. do you give lessons?

thats the best thing about the technique .. it seldom needs to be taught as most people do it naturally

Well young moonhunt, I think your photos with your wabbit might have to sustain me for the weekend. The rain we have had here today will likely rule out the wabbit hunt I had planed for some hill country tomorrow. Make sure you get some photos of your next one too please. Very well done!

I must take my kids out for a bunnie shoot....and myself, been a few years since I plastered some wabits. Kids have shot possums,goats,pigs,deer but no rabbits. Not as many around as there used to be but I am sure I can find some if I put my mind to it :)

Rushy I thought you guys were meant to be taught to have both eyes open.

Yes but I am right eye dominant so that is the one that I really have on the target. My left eye is fairly useless for seeing anything beyond the end of my left arm.
